Because I need to discuss the season finale.

THIS THREAD *WILL* CONTAIN SPOILERS

NO, REALLY

I feel completely cheated. Does anyone else?

Everyone knew she wasn't back for good!

I know, but you have to admit it was lame. Not even a kiss or an "I love you" from the not-knockoff doctor. The whole resolution was a bit "Really, Russel T?"

Ofcourse it was, RTD is awful.

BSG 2004, not the one in the 80s or whatever. Who likes that?

Doctor Who was brilliant this season, but yes the end wasnt well written imo.
Bye bye donna, was just getting used to her.

elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){

Daleks owning was good, the end went a little bit too SG1 Style (The dieing but yet not dieing) bit. I'd called the non regenerating bit though.

BTW Daleks speaking in german was really, really worrying. Because it sounded like they were meant to do it.
2008-07-09, 5:15 AM #13
It was in germany, ofcourse they were; I'm fairly sure it was just a comedy moment.

Really though I know that the Daleks are what most people associate with Dr Who but I really wish they'd just leave them alone for one series.
nope.

I thought the whole thing was rather rushed, Donna's character could of been done soooo much better, should of left her as a time lord, that would of been better, to wipe her memory at the end was just lame, and the blue suit doctor, should of been killed off.
The episode was good, some great gags, like the whole Half Doctor and Donna first talking, thats was funny.

Oh if only RTD could think of something else better than a Reset and button pushing to solve all the Dr's problems
Flying over there some were...

There are many moments where I shared those setiments. I was like "c'mon now"

Yeah the whole "wipe the mind!" bit was crap. Felt like ST:Voyager as it was a big reset button for Donna.

Really could've been much better. I mean, what did all the extra companions really do... they each added one bit of tech and that's it.

Sarah Jane had Mr. Smith/K9 (which I thought they didn't have rights to use...)
Jackie Tyler... uh she really didn't have a point besides almost getting herself killed
Micky was there to bring one more gun
Cpt. Jack died, found Sarah, Jackie, and Micky and then didn't actually get anything done cause the Daleks stopped them (cause they HAD to threaten the Daleks rather than just blowing up the ships...)
Donna did nothing till she got Timelorded, then it really wasn't her that saved the day, it was Doctor-Donna's technobabble.
Martha also had to threaten the Daleks too and get caught.

The only really big thing is we "saw the Doctor's soul"

Oh, and who else thinks that no companion died an eternal death like was predicted...

In other words, I love Dr. Who, and that finale could've been better, they just wanted to throw as many companions on a screen as they could.
Sam: "Sir we can't call it 'The Enterprise'"
Jack: "Why not!"

It was an awful finale, the episode before was much better.

I mean, how is anyone going to top wiping out all of existance as an end-of-season threat?

SG: the real problem with that (aside from the fact that it was lame) is that if it was done right - like with a purpose, rather than having all of them there just to be there - all of the companions together could have been awesome. But noooooo

The rest of the season was good, but that makes a disappointing finale even worse, you know?

I'm rather annoyed by the loss of Donna by the way. As much as I hate anything else Catherine Tate does, I really liked her character.

Also Martha's character needs to be laid to rest in a pit somewhere - she's awful.
nope.

Yeah it really did pale in comparison of "The Stolen Earth." I was on edge all episode then I contemplated for a week whether that was the end of David Tennant (thank God it wasn't. I really like that bloke.).

I liked Martha in season 3, but I don't like that they tried to turn her into a harda**. She didn't have the chemistry that Rose and Donna had, but I liked her just fine.

I wouldn't act for toffee either. Maybe for cake.

I'm not saying she was fantastic, I'm just saying I liked having a companion that was more about logic than emotion without having to be too stereotypically "brainy"

Well no series in 2009, just the odd specials.

Daleks were done correctly at first (1 Dalek being insanely powerful), then the Cult of Skaro was pretty good. The Daleks vs Cybermen and oh look we accidently missed ANOTHER dalek battlefleet ruined it.
2008-07-13, 12:35 PM #27
Daleks and Timelords are to Doctor Who as Borg and the Federation are to Star Trek.

A cool fun enemy that's ridiculously powerful, seems to get killed off in a stroke of genius, then comes back for no reason, quickly becoming lame and predictable in the process.

But just like the Borg in Star Trek, Doctor Who wouldn't be Doctor Who without Daleks now.

you obviously arent into the original doctor who are you.

If you were, you would know that the story evil of the daleks (which was a story with the second doctor) was actualy written to be the last dalek story. Even that fact didnt stop the daleks from returning three times during the third doctor's tenure.

So if a story that was intended to be the last ever story with the daleks didnt get rid of them, NOTHING will.

Also, they are too valuable a property for Terry Nation's estate to let be removed entirely (becuase doctor who is pretty much the only way they can make money off them, as Terry himself found out during his unsuccessful attempts at starting dalek spinoff series ages ago)

Yeah I havent watched a vast amount of the older doctor who.

Daleks can be done really well. Particularly the excellent Genisis of the Daleks episode where the doctor goes back in time (note also with Sarah Jane) to when the Daleks were first created. Its a bleak and quite good episode.

I'd like to see Daleks being sadistic, cruel and really, really evil. They touched on it in the first new season in Dalek where it blatantly lies to get rose to touch it and repair itself.

Just wanted to say, after re-watching the "Father's Day" episode, I picked up on what song was playing on the car radio:

Time to necropost. Besides, the finale airs tonight in the US.

However, I watched it earlier today. In fact, I haven't seen an episode since "Doomsday", when he left Rose on the beach in the other universe. Then earlier this week, I stumbled across it on Youtube and watched the entire 3rd and 4th season (not that it's a lot - there's only about 15 episodes per season).

I thought the finale was fine. Kinda disappointed that Rose didn't stay with the original, and I figured he whispered in her ear just to irk the 'shippers.

Can't say I'm sad to see Donna go, though. She wasn't as easy on the eye as Martha.

And what's this about no Dr. Who next year????

(and yeah, I still couldn't make out the song on the radio.)
"Harriet, sweet Harriet - hard-hearted harbinger of haggis."

Martha was awful, Catherine tate is ginger and ~40, Tennant is making 3 specials while he's playing Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare company and the song on the radio was Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
nope.

one, I think the kiss after the whisper was a bloody big hint to what he said.

And two, leaving a companion is hardly something new. Hell, leaving a companion with which there was considdered to be a lot of romantic subtones in an alternate univere isnt even a new thing for dr who, as he left Romana II in E-space in the fourth doctor's tenure.

Also, Donna is hardly the most ugly companion that the doctor has ever had. Even then, there have been far more annoying companions in the past.

(I realy wish that people that became fans during the new show would make a basic effort to look up the history of the show, I mean, the dr who wiki has summeries of all of the original's serials, heck, so does the BBC website)
