Anyone notice the war in Georgia?
2008-08-12, 2:56 PM #41
um... no. i believe Georgia just agreed to Russia's peace treaty, which included both sides withdrawing and ceasing hostilities. Dmitry Medvedev even said he ordered an end to military operations in Georgia... not that all military operations actually stopped, but hey it was a sweet gesture.

So I just read a bunch of articles about the war in Georgia, and it seems like Russia arn't the "bad guys" here. Well, at least at the start of the war. Now they're being dicks and shooting Georgian civilians, including this Georgian reporter. Man, I love how calm she is about the thing. I'm sure anyone would be freaking about getting shot.

Anyways, Georgia was being retarded going in South Ossetia and shelling the hell out of it, after warnings from Russia that they will intervene if there is any conflict between South Ossetia and Georgia. And Russian forces are being dicks about the whole thing, entering Georgian territory and leaving, re-entering it, and shooting civies with snipers.

My researching did lead me to the current president of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev's wikipedia article, and woah, this guy is awesome.

It seems more likely were shot at by Georgians if the translation comments after the video are correct.

From one of the comments
Quote:

As per the OPET commercials, here is a translation of the frantic gibberish:

Voice 1: There should be some Georgian troops somewhere around here...
Voice 2: Yes there should

Bullet hits windscreen.

Voice 1: Is everyone OK? (asked several times)

Voice 3: No Levent's been shot!

Voice 1: Go back go back!

Commotion... someone saying his last prayers (literally)...

Voice 3: Stop moving you idiot.

All Together: PRESS! PRESS!..

Voice 2: Doesn't the car work?

Voice 1: No it doesn't and the tire is flat.

Voice 3: Nobody raise their heads.

Voice 2: I'm loosing a lot of blood, is there anything you can do from back there?

Voice 1: Take your shirt off and put it on the monopod.

Voice 3: We need to walk back from here.

All together: Ambulance!

Georgian soldiers detain film crew for 14 hours with no food, water, minimal medical aid against their will. While I'm sure the news crew will get excellent severance after these events, nobody in the military will be held responsible for the violations of their rights. This is the case for pretty much any of the situations in which the press is attacked or their rights are violated. While such is war, we live in a time where friendly fire is not a misnomer, and people get sued off their asses over hot coffee.

Yeah, I noticed the Georgian patches on their arms after watching it a few more times. And CNN appears to not notice :P

Anyways, here's some good ol fashion censorship

Second video is provided by Russian youtube.

Apparently our media doesn't want us to know that Georgians were the instigators of the invasion by the Russians?

Nobody wants us to hear the whole story because nobody is free of blame. Russia and the US have been juggling torches over that powderkeg for decades.
2008-08-15, 9:01 PM #61
Well it's obviously because Russia is the Great Satan and can do no right. And since Georgia is an ally, we'll get down on our hands and knees for them all day long regardless of how wrong they are. Just like what happened all the ****ing time during the Cold War. If you want to know why so many people hate America with a passion, go look at some of the corrupt governments we propped up during the Cold War simply because they were capitalist.

Apparently there's a pipeline near South Ossetia in Georgia that the Russians want...

If McCain has his way, we'll be in another cold war.

At least it will give Watchmen more relevance.

Reading around here a bit thanks to Commander (WARNING: pictures in the thread linked are not for the weak of heart), some of the Russians seem to be talking about CNN and don't really hold...shall we say high opinions for one of our national news broadcast :P And they might as well :P

Also, if you're wondering how Georgia and Georgia have the same names, this article explains it pretty well. I didn't know about the country Georgia's name though. Interesting.

Anyways, 60% of the people asked in CNN's poll if the world is heading to another Cold War said "yes", which is also interesting.

But not as interesting as this photograph Commander and I looked at. First time I looked at it, I noticed General Hammond on the left. Commander noticed Stalin (who was Georgian btw) in the middle.
