I especially like how they waited until the film was finished filming instead of suing during the planning stages.

Since they took so long to file a lawsuit isn't there something that if you don't defend your copyright initially you're basically **** out of luck?

No. That's trademarks.

Hate them all you want, but you're just hating them for being right. They'll settle for a cut of the profit.

There should be.

Anyway, it looks like Fox got tired of canceling it's own programing and is moving on to everyone elses.

I think its funny how everyone is panicking about Fox cancelling it. Why would they cancel when they could make a ton of money off a movie that they didn't have to spend a dime producing? No, this threat of not letting it show is just posturing so that they can get a bigger cut of the profits.

No, them being "right" would have been to file an injunction as soon as the movie was announced, not sitting on it until the movie was about to be released.

You're forgetting something very important: It's FOX, they have a history of doing stupid things.

I doubt they'll cancel it. Warner Bros would rather settle, even for something big, than throw millions down the drain on a complete loss.

They are no less right now than they would have been then. What you meant was what would have been "nice".

Yep. Fox will cash in with a bigger settlement than they'd have gotten if they'd filed as soon as they knew about the film, and Warner Bros will still make more than enough off the movie to cover the settlement. Everyone wins, but Fox wins more than anyone because they didn't have to do anything.

You could be right. Nerdy projects such as this one seem to make an incredible amount of money now despite the poor economic circumstances of the target audience. I guess they're too stupid to realize how bad off they are.

Are you referring to the series that aired on the scifi channel?

'Nerdy projects'? Comic book movies have been a pretty integral part of Hollywood for the last 50 years and are pretty mainstream now with a pretty mainstream audience (for better or worse. For 'worse' see Wanted. Actually, don't. that was one of the worst movies I've ever seen).

The 'comic book guy' stereotype isn't exactly the 'target audience' for the Batman or X-Men movies, nor really any of these 'nerdy projects'.

Firefly is the best sci-fi show of all time.

It was on Fox. Fox completely mishandled the show. It dropped the VERY IMPORTANT pilot, aired episodes out of order, frequently changed the scheduled day and time for the show, and barely promoted it.

Eventually they canceled it.

But since there was such a following of the show, Joss Whedon (the creator) got Universal to budget a feature film, Serenity, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, and definitely one of the best science fiction films ever created.

Ohhh, see I always thought it was a "scifi original" series. Didn't know Fox filmed it. That explains it.

Yeah it really was one of the greatest shows ever. I always wondered why it ended so abruptly. I just figured it was because whoever was filming it, ran out of cash.

Thanks for clearing that tidbit up.

Man... I don't think the guys who run Fox really understand that farting in the face of your customers WILL eventually ruin your business.

I like Firefly and it was mishandled by Fox. They should have left well enough alone and picked up the third season of Dark Angel and left Firefly for somebody else. Instead, they failed, and then failed again.

Serenity was an entertaining chapter but flopped so I don't think it says much about the overall appeal of the series.

Cowboys in space. Woop-de-doo. I never saw what people thought was so awesome about firefly. Cowboys, astronauts, hookers - It's an adolescent boy's wet dream. And about as compelling.

Wow, pretty bold move to try and keep it from being released at all. I wonder how often something like this happens.

Obviously they'll work out a deal and it will get released. If not, someone associated with the project will get pissed and leak it ;)

Over-rated or not it surely you agree it could've done a lot better then it did.
Fox severely screwed the pooch on that one.
