Some people need a sense of humor. Something can be funny even if you don't agree with it.

What does atheism have to do with the big bang and evolution?

The atheist says, "I believe god doesn't exist."

He doesn't say, "I believe there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs. Oh, and god doesn't exist lol."

No, Atheists say "I don't believe that God exists" not that "I believe that God doesn't exist"

There is actually a pretty important difference. Atheism is simply not being a theist. You could even be open to the possibility of God existing but just not believe that it's the case.

Atheism is far more misunderstood than Christianity though.

Both definitions of atheism are valid. They can be referred to specifically as "weak atheism" (not being theist) or "strong atheism" (belief in the nonexistence of god).

Actually, the proper terms are agnostic atheism and gnostic atheism. :eng101:

Fair enough, but I was just being overly technical as atheism literally means "not a theist". That doesn't imply that they believe that God doesn't exist, just that they don't believe that he/she does.

But it is true that the majority of Atheists believe that God doesn't exist.

And this is where I think there is a bigger overlap of Atheists and Agnostics than most people do probably.

Would gnostic atheism be atheism that posits that God doesn't exist?
