Welp. I'll definitely be without power by the time it gets to me (Mon/Tues) given that my power company is pretty ****ty even on sunny days, but beyond that I'll probably be fine.

New Orleans is probably going to drown again however, but at least they seem to have gotten everyone out.

I'd laugh if it did the white path and then came round a second time.

My cousin is going to Tulane University in New Orleans. He probably had to be evacuated. Again. Happened last year too. Betting he wished he stayed closer to home (NJ).

2008-08-30, 8:47 PM #4
I think evacuation is mandatory at this point.
2008-08-30, 8:59 PM #5
I wanna go.

All these tropical cyclones MUST be sent to Gitmo! They are a DIRECT THREAT to the sovereignty and security of these United States! This is why the great President Bush MUST strengthen the PATRIOT Act. All these stupid liberals wanting to play nice and understand tropical cyclones. Well these cyclones see it as a sign of WEAKNESS. And now look what's happening! Rita, Katrina, Gustav. We are being punished by God for teaching evolution and supporting gay-marriage.

These Cyclones MUST STOP!

I agree with JG. STOP THE CYLONS. :awesomelon:

OMG! I forgot about the Cylons! Their "god" is an assault to the real God and his Son, Jesus Christ! Da-gummit! I'll see them Cylons HANG for preaching their god over mine!

Friends, this is why we need to get President Bush to remain for a 3rd term. He is the only one that can save our Christian nation from the assault of Cylons and Cyclones!

Yellow would be a jerk move. There's no good reason for it to veer off into central Texas. :colbert:

I can't sympathize with anybody who actually went BACK to a coastal city below sea level in hurricane territory after what happened with Katrina.

Sorry :gonk:

That said, I am crossing my fingers for the best and hopefully any damage is minimal. :(

Hanna is probably the biggest threat to me in Jacksonville. Not that there's any real idea which way that storm is going.

I AM SAFE

Seriously, here in Missouri we have hurricane relief shelters already running.

Doesn't help the traffic :(

Also, to Cody Coker's last picture...are those space invaders? >.>

Wow, look at the current computer model hurricane forecasts and compare them to the ones taken yesterday at 8PM (in the OP). Each one has changed so much, but I guess weather forecasting sucking is nothing new.

to be fair, 18 hours is probably a pretty long time in a storm's lifetime.
2008-08-31, 6:07 PM #22
When are the hurricanes going to get kick-*** names like Gigaf***? And when are we going to wake up and commit resources to a long-term reconstruction of towns that are hit over and over to move communities away to much higher ground (say 50 miles north of present-day New Orleans) and rebuild coastline wetlands, the natural barriers?

My handcrew could get sent down that way for the relief effort. They went in 2005 for Katrina. Would be an interesting experience for sure.

Our powerline workers have been recalled from your state because big parts of ours went black last night due to wind and buttloads of rain.

Any property damage?

Of course you are. Even if you might have been in trouble, Jindel would have saved you.

Here we go again. I'm due for another hurricane in my yard in about 8 hours.

The around-the-clock e-mail updates being sent out by the UT administration have convinced me that this hurricane will level large portions of Austin and leave us all without power. Fortunately I've turned my bathtub into an impromptu beer cooler, so I should be fine.

It doesn't look like it's going anywhere near Austin. It's supposed to slip just east of Dallas, and then head straight towards me. I think they are panicking. At least you've got a tub of beer for the weekend. :)

I hear ya. Me too, and the main part of the storm isn't even here yet. I was a band rehearsal, and someone told us the sirens in town were going off. So instead of running for cover, we ran outside to see... :downswords:

Didn't see anything, though.
