Discuss.

Ever since I was like 7 - 8 I was wishing for a game with this kind of realism. Finally it's here.

I'm definitely picking this up on release. What about you?

...and then the aliens show up and ruin everything.

But yeah, it looks like it could be decent, though the graphics look like Crysis on ultra-low settings.

Seriously, why put aliens in the game? It ruined it for me.

I assume because a game about elite military commando unit #45,201 armed with state-of-the-art weaponry and a bad-ttitude infiltrating a foreign country was too predictable or something.

Far Cry 2 seems to be a realistic depiction of Africa. I just hope they won't ruin it with mutants or whatever.

There aren't any mutants. It's all based off realism. It seems they did their homework and got rid of everything that sucked about the first one (which is probably why the only similarities are the names)

Dude, that song is Barra Barra from Black Hawk Down. That is crazy.

Also, this game is looking really cool.

I think I'm one of the few who actually liked the mutants from the first one. Sure, it didn't really make sense... but after a while, more and more levels of brainless commandos would have gotten boring.

Like pulling a giant stake out of a leg? Unless one of the features of the game is bleeding out and dying of shock.

And the music sucks. If someone played the music to me and asked me what sort of game it came from, I'd say probably from a game where you have to manage an anal sodomy club because that's what I actually think it sounds like.

I agree with stat.

It looks a bit meh to me, then again IMO games "based off realism" suck.
nope.
2008-09-11, 7:13 AM #11
All the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games are "based off realism" and they don't suck. In fact, they started to suck once they got less realistic.

I read the Far Cry 2 preview article at Bit-Tech a few months ago. It actually looks quite promising, I'd love to try it.

I like the realism factor of having to patch yourself up, or remove stake out of your leg. It adds more depth to the game. It's definitely different, and if you don't like it well that's fine, but I'm looking forward to something other then a COD4 or Halo rip-off (or worse, another Far Cry or Crysis :P)

I don't know about you, but video games are an escape from reality.

I bet it's so realistic you get aids.
2008-09-11, 6:48 PM #15
Why do none of these "realistic games" incapacitate you when you get shot once.

I'm going to stop playing video games when you have to stop every 4 hours to pop a squat.

This realism **** is super snore. I just want to **** with people and hide in the jungle.

Play Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. It's a bit old but it's actually realistic without being horribly, horribly stiff (Operation Flashpoint).
DO NOT WANT.

They are also a simulation of reality. When they properly mimmick reality, they can be more immersive, drawing the player in and allowing them to escape further. When done properly, realism is fantastic. Of course it can be over bearing, it's a fine line.

..Are pretty much exactly the same in terms of stiff movement. I loved OFP and all for its open-endedness and scale, but hated it for its clumsy movement. I suggested RO because it mixes realism to the point where you die in one shot, and you move realistically (and fluidly!), and it displays weapons accurately, but it doesn't put you in 50squarekm areas devoid of life. :colbert:
DO NOT WANT.

Well, can you actually go into the jungle or savanna and shoot people? Didn't think so.

This allows you to do that :P

Besides, what's wrong with a realistic game instead of your casual Halo crap. Cod4 was pretty realistic, and everyone loves that one. Why bash Far Cry 2? I bet it's just the name that's bugging you.

Crytek has nothing to do with Far Cry 2.

Oh and one of the selectable characters has Malaria (something like that anyway). So you're not too far off.

Well, technically, we don't know about ArmA2 (Though probably) and OFP2 (We still don't even have screenshots of it yet) yet...I also wouldn't call RO not stiff...

Trees qualify as life. :colbert: Besides, ArmA did have small animals in it. You can shoot seagulls out of the sky in it. ArmA2 has screens that show boars.

lol sweet. There's animals too. Lots of herbivores. No predators though.

Well personally, I think there's a difference in 'life' between scattered NPCs over a vast area and 31 other human players in a smaller arena.

But hey, I won't argue. I was just throwing out an example of a realistic game. OFP and ArmA are perfectly good realistic games. :)
DO NOT WANT.
2008-09-12, 10:47 AM #25
Well, back when ArmA2 was still called OFP2 and/or Game2, I think there was mention made of how it was supposed to be populated...

It's more just that that's what the thread is about. I think it might be slightly known how I feel about "realism" by now. Give me my arcadey fun.
nope.

It's not based on realism. At all. It's the traditional one man army takes on everyone thing again. Seriously the, guy pulls bullet and shrapnel out of his things and keeps running.
2008-09-12, 12:24 PM #29
Exactly.

Also the phrase "Based on Realism" makes my inner grammar-child cry.
nope.
2008-09-12, 12:30 PM #30
Yeah. I thought you were they guy who used that phrase, otherwise I wouldn't have used it.
2008-09-12, 12:35 PM #31
Nope, that's why I keep putting it in inverted commas. :P
nope.
2008-09-12, 3:05 PM #32
Well most games are "based" off realism. Otherwise gravity wouldn't apply :P

I'm looking forward to it anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. I think you should at least rent it to try, you never know these days :D

Are all of your posts based off of stupid then?

Rob, stfu.

Are all your posts based off of dumb****ness? Sounds like it, none here seems to be open minded at all. You can go **** yourself. I think it'll be great.

It's obvious I made a serious mistake thinking I could post on the discussion forum without hassle. It seems noone around here can learn to welcome changes and new concepts. They all just want the same old, boring, pathetic game like all the others.

BESIDES. It's ALWAYS a smart idea to rent a game if you're unsure about it.

I wasn't paying to close attention to be honest.

Also, Xzero fails. The only reason people are giving you a hard time is because you decided to take offense, with out any real reason. With rob around, that's like smearing yourself in cow blood before wading through piranha infested waters.

Remember, XZero, Rob thrives off of anger. See, he doesn't have any friends in real life, so he pretends to be cool by antagonizing everyone on the internet and then passing it off as worthless because it's "internet". Don't give him what he wants or he fights back even harder. I learned this the hard way. :carl:

EVen if my comments fail. lol That's the whole point.
