it took me a second to figure out why half of each screen was dark.

my desk is a giant piece of wood on top of two filing cabinets... and a bookshelf thrown on top of that

I just switched mine from two pieces of plywood on some cinder blocks to an antique work desk. Now my legs don't fit under it. :(
