Do you want me to make this a poll? HDTV, TV, NOTV?

Thanks Temperamental, that's a perfect explanation for what I meant :D

The difference between 1080p and 1080i on a display that does proper deinterlacing is very difficult to notice.

Come up to NH sometime and see what's local. :P

I have Sears, Staples, WalMart, KMart and Best Buy unless I want to drive an hour or more. BB is usually mobbed on Black Friday.

I would even go as far as to argue that most regular/average television watchers wouldn't be able to tell the difference either.

HURR TECHELITISM

If someone decides to give me one, sure, why the hell not. I waited 7 years (well, 2001 was the first year I remember knowing that there were flat monitors) to get an LCD monitor and I was basically given one just like that. Times.

It's hard enough to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p for most stuff, right?

The main reason I'm only looking at 1080P is because I want to run PC games on it as well.

I wonder if Tupac knew the difference.

I would say that yeah, most people who have not got a trained eye (i.e the average television watcher) would not be able to tell the difference right away. I myself can barely see the difference, but that could just be me.

anime can only be thoroughly enjoyed on an HDTV

I got an 1080p 42" plasma screen Panasonic HDTV. Of course, it took me a while to realize that it was 1080p. I suspect it is cause my PS3 (settings set to 1080p) will display the menu on my TV, but not my bro's or my in-laws 720p. It wasn't labeled in the store cause it was one of those Best Buy deals(Didn't have the remote). I got it with the Best Buy credit card and still paying on it because its like a loan and will improve my already good credit. And I got the TV to save space. Its right above the piano.

No, everyone can tell the difference, it's just a matter of caring. Anyone with decent visual acuity will be able to see the difference, although they may need it pointed out to them at first. I would say that 720p is the minimum to remove the obvious blurriness. The next big leaps, SHDTV or UHDTV will totally be worth it, though.

this

those gifs though are fairly poor examples because they are being shown at a low framerate to exaggerate the difference

That's what I meant. A lot of people would have to have it pointed out to them before they noticed it, or cared about it. Whichever way you want to look at it.

So since I'm totally ignorant to the matter, it's just as good to me! yey

When I'm home, i play on a 50" 1080p Samsung HDTV. While I would say that 1080p does have an edge over 1080i (when I was comparing V for Vendetta 1080p vs. 1080i), the big difference is the step up to 60Hz to 120Hz.

Once you watch something 1080p in 120Hz (or as our TV calls it, Auto Motion Plus), it's just a ****ing new ballgame

At this stage we will benefit a lot more from higher dynamic ranges, higher data rate compression, and better camera sensors than we will from more pixels.

Or they could stop being retarded and start showing things at 30fps. Even with motion blur, ew.

automotion plus isn't all that great... and absolute garbage with film same with the other 120Hz interpolation features

I told her she didn't need one. Buying glass cats on ebay was bad enough.

Yeah, the difference would be difficult if you have a good TV.

I'd be perfectly happy with 720p. I'd be able to run games on it with a lower res (a.k.a higher FPS) and it'd be BIG. w00t

Me.

I have a crappy little CRT that I never watch. In a few months I won't be able to anyway.
