New Star Trek Trailer

Except the Federation was being corrupt and trying to exploit the resources of a planet, so er no.

One admiral was. The crew of the Enterprise upheld the Federation's ideals.
"Flowers and a landscape were the only attractions here. And so, as there was no good reason for coming, nobody came."

I will definitely see it, though I am concerned about Leonard Nimoy's role (having him as old Spock creates lots of opportunity for a cheesy flashback dynamic).
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?

Apparently it is not a flashback role. At some point Spock warps Kirk from the Enterprise onto another planet where he meets old Spock and Scotty. Scotty has been banished to this planet after trying to transport an admiral's dog only to have the test go wrong with the dog never rematerializing. Old Spock is there to tell Kirk that in the future Scotty has perfected the technology to warp an object onto a vessel moving at lightspeed. Except present day Scotty hasn't figured this out yet.

As they're about to be beamed back to the Enterprise, Kirk thinks Old Spock is coming with them but he tells them he is staying and that young Spock cannot see him nor ever know that Kirk met him. Spock tells Kirk that he needs to become captain of the Enterprise and tells him of a bylaw to prevent young Spock from doing so.

So is Spock the same actor who plays Sylar? Because if not the guy has a twin brother.

yeah, Sylar is Spock

The asian guy from harold and kumar is Sulu.

Simon Pegg (of shawn of the dead fame :D) is Scotty.

the Kid from Alpha Dog, the one that dies at the end is Bones I think...

their casting choices are kinda interesting but they look like they'll work out well. the trailer was awesome. This version of star trek tho is a reboot, it's a re-working of the series to market it to more of a main stream audience rather then the geeky people that normally watch it, such was their casting choices.

If you really must, think of it as an alternate telling, or a ret-con or something, I donno. But it's not suppose to be just a prequel, it's a remake and a modernization

I thought it was more like a "Batman Beyond kind of thing."

Dude ST:XI is gonna rock. I've been a trekkie my whole life and this is just what i have been waiting for. The Original Series (hereby refered to as TOS) was to bright and chipper. True it had darker moments such as Scotty being framed for murder, but this will bring a new side that TOS didnt have! Forget TNG, VOY, DS9 and ENT. This is what Trek is all about!
