There should be a tv show pitting blackbelts against the bible belt.

Entertainment + advancing society all at the same time.

The bible belt is full of guns. It'd be a short TV show.

All I remember from the bible is two sisters getting their dad drunk and making him screw them to make babies.
2009-03-01, 9:16 PM #46
Yeah, there is the issue with people who are addicted to porn. More than an addiction, I guess it becomes another form of escapism from reality. (Wow + Porn = LIFE?)

All I'm trying to say is, there are far better things to do than watching porn. You'd probably get laid more if you dedicated the time for porn towards something that can get you closer to getting laid.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I guess you consider the death penalty murder as well? If you are convicted of a crime for which the penalty is death, then essentially you are being murdered as well?

In WW2 the Jews were guilty of being Jewish, so Hitler killed them

In the Bible, people were guilty of not being Jewish, so God killed them.

God = Hitler???

Define Jewish.

A race of people defined by blood and who they descend from, or people who follow Judaism?

I believe we have the capability to choose what we believe in, yet not who we descend from.

How can you say opposites are the same thing? As if I were to say White = Black.

why is this thread even going in this direction, really? a lot of you seem to get a bizarre amount of glee out of criticizing others beliefs. on both sides. (yes i am included in that) being religious does not exempt you from wanting to look at or even enjoying porn. being religious does not make you perfect. on the same note the religious crew needs to ease up on the holier than thou routine (not necessarily here, just in general)

in regards to porn being bad or good, porn itself is neutral. it really depends onthe individual as to weather or not it can be a negative or a positive thing.

Sort of what I am trying to say. Religions do condemn it, but thats not what I'm talking about. What I am trying to say is, there are better things to do than watching porn.

The Jews in the bible were a specific nation.

for people who still dont get it.

Gold says its not murder if they deserve it, like in the Flood myth.

Converting to Judaism was always an option for those who God killed. For the Jews in WW2, this was not the case.

Now, God has the right to create and take life, as he sees fit. He warns people and give them a chance (sometimes many chances), and if they don't comply, he destroys them.

If there was a rough neighborhood and you warn people several times that the laws of the city were going to be roughly enforced unless they comply, and still they don't, it is your duty and within your power as (whatever position you hold, mayor, etc) to enforce the law.

It works sort of like that, however were comparing God with a Mayor.

I'm not sure about the study in the OP. Isn't it much more likely that their porn consumption is identical, but subscription rates are higher in the more conservative parts of the country because they believe in capitalism while everybody else is just getting their porn for free?

By the way, this thread fails my religious debate litmus test. Basically it works like this: I read the thread backwards, and none of SF_GoldG_01's posts made any sense. None of them stand on their own outside of the greater context of the thread - more specifically, they are incomprehensible without the commentary made by other people. I think it would be safe to disregard his meanderings and trivialities.

Porn "addiction" is a psychological problem and not a physiological addiction: Pornography itself doesn't cause harm. The subjective opinion that it "hurts" actresses is certainly up for debate, but not a valid criticism on the industry of porn as a whole.

It's not unhealthy, has never been proven to be unhealthy, and is simply something that makes a lot of people who are too afraid of their own dicks uncomfortable.

I think jedikirby is already filling the forum's ironically bigoted quota as it is, guys. Try to keep in mind that Christianity isn't that bad, it's just really poorly represented. The SF_GoldG_01s of the world are just the very vocal and very stupid minority but they don't represent how most Christians think or act.

Basically what I'm asking all of you to do is to stop being the SF_GoldG_01 of atheism. You're all above this.

Psst... ever hear of the opposite sex? Heres a tip: they don't have dicks, and they do watch porn.

@ Jon'C: Whats so incomprehensible about my statement?

"There are better things you could be doing than watching porn"

I'm beginning to doubt your intelligence.

Actually, in all seriousness: this study illustrates something a lot more important than any numbers it could conclude, and I'm frankly astonished that nobody has brought it up in the thread yet.

The fact is, most people here drew a conclusion about the study before they even read it: Christianity, as practiced by conservatives and fundamentalists, is false. Phony. Fake. This sort of study surprises nobody because we knew it already. We knew it intuitively. Evangelical, born again, Jesus Camp, LDS, WTS, southern Baptist, WBC and all of these other wacko insane fringe Christianity is Alcoholics Anonymous for sin and the only people you will ever find in these rotten cesspool churches are twisted soulless abominations because they're the only people who need ambulatory faith.

Think about this the next time you look at a photo of the last president.

Sure, they also have vaginal intercourse with farm animals on film for money. Here's a life lesson for you: women are people, and just like men they are capable of doing depraved and self-destructive things. The fact that women are willing to look at porn does not invalidate kirby's argument.

SF_GoldG_01, have you ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect?
2009-03-02, 1:06 AM #67
That would explain why I hated my time in a fundamentalist church.

I recall one particularly bad youth group sermon on the horrors of relationships.

Holding hands leads to hugging, which leads to kissing level 1 (pecks), followed by level 2(smooch), followed by french(SIN STARTS HERE). Next the dreaded petting, followed quickly by full on sex. Of course, this is the path to hell.

Hold hands before getting married and your gonna go to hell.

Out of curiosity, which version or versions of Christianity would you say are the correct ones?

I was just trying to poke at his statement that anti-porn had to do with people afraid of their dicks.

Sort of felt that the female area was left out of the statement.

At any case, I prefer erotic stories over porn movies.

Personally I think the whole Bible can be summarized in one sentence: Don't be a douche. Any version of Christianity that adheres to the statement is automatically more correct than any version of Christianity that directly uses Christianity in acts of douchiness (i.e. Fred Phelps).

Simple guidelines are for the simple-minded. Paul's letters made it pretty clear that Christians don't have "guidelines."

Yeah, Paul's letters: the best contribution to the Bible, for sure.

No offense meant by this question or anything.. But did you just happen to take some courses, or did you actually earn a degree/diploma/whatever it may be called for that particular road of study?

I think I'll stick with the opinions of a legitimate doctor, biologist, or neurologist, even if they disagree with my own personal beliefs.

The problem is that people are attacking PORN in general. It does have a negative impact on society, albeit a small one. Mainly it's not just porn, its the media in general. We have an expected image of women nowadays, that comes directly from porn as well as every magazine cover and advertisement you see out there. Almost everything you see is pornographic in some way, and a lot of things allude to sex. Blaming porn for the entire problem isn't correct, blaming it for contributing to it is. Argue all you want, but the impact on girls today from this expected image they must project is pretty abundantly clear, if you disagree with that, well then you're basically someone who hasn't talked to a girl outside of your family.
2009-03-02, 4:59 AM #77
The impact THE MEDIA has on women is just as bad as the impact it has on men.

Neither group gets to whine about it if only one can
2009-03-02, 5:37 AM #78
What? Statistically, men don't suffer from eating disorders as much as women do. Men aren't held to the same level of scrutiny when it comes to public appearance; men's basic worth in society's eyes isn't nearly as dependent on their appearance.

I'm not sure where your notion about equity in whining comes from. Is it sexist to say that, in general, women have it worse in our society in men? Well, reality is sexist, and until that changes, there is more to whine about on the women's side of things.

The pressure to succede, to look good, to perform as a man is JUST AS GREAT if not as greater than the female equivelant.
