Do you drive stick?
2009-03-08, 10:42 PM #1
Just wondering how many of you do.

2009-03-08, 10:45 PM #2
Well, I don't drive.

But having to focus on some frigging stick instead of just turning the wheel and accelerating and sometimes decelerating? WTF

I wish I had a manual. I miss my manual. I have an automatic now and hate it.

Also, I am a way better driver with a manual.

Yes, I do drive stick. I feel like an old person if I'm driving an automatic.

I cannot stand automatics. I love my manual tC.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Hell yes a manual.

I can drive manual, but I have an automatic. It is my first car, and I got it before I learned how to drive stick.

I'm half-waiting for her to blow up so I can buy a stick-shift... so much fun to drive!

No. I drive an automatic and I have no idea how to drive stick. I have no ambition to actually own a stick shift, but I'd like to learn.

yes and no. My work car is semi automatic, meaning you can drive it as automatic, or you can drive it manual. My personal car is manual.

Physically impossible unless you use inferior materials.

They may shift faster, have more gears, and more aggressive ratios but they all still have more moving parts.

Any machine with more moving parts is less reliable.

Don't drive, but odds are I'll learn in a manual and I'll eventually own one.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Personally, I drive a car.

(My last 2 cars were manual, but my ion3 is automatic)

My first car was an automatic. The last three have been stick. It's just better, feels like you have better control over what the vehicle does.

Yes, I've never even seen an automatic car.

Also, why is it called stick?
nope.

Who said anything about reliability? They were talking about efficiency.

I drive an automatic and have no desire to drive a stick, despite having done so a few times before.

Of course, part of that might be that it really screws with my left leg if I drive a shift for any length of time.

The same thing is true for efficiency cm. The more parts something has, the less efficient it tends to be.
nope.

I can drive manual, but the car I currently drive is automatic.

A system of pulleys is more efficient than a single rope. A gear is more efficient than a pulley. A set of gears... well, you know.

MT is still more fuel efficient than AT, but the gap used to be much wider. These days, the fuel efficiency between the two transmissions are comparable, and MT's fuel efficiency in city driving is probably lower or equal to AT's fuel efficiency in actual field tests, depending on the driver.

I drive automatic. I'd like to learn manual, but never got around to it.

You don't get to speak. :nonono:

Also yes I drive stick.
DO NOT WANT.

Stick shift = driving. Automatic = pretending to drive while the car drives for you.

zombies too... zombies don't care if the first working car you find is MT and you only know how to drive AT

Car = mode of transportation. Manual = making things harder than they have to be and acting superior about it.

Has anyone ever driven with cruise control? I imagine that must be an eerie experience.

I have the feature on my car but I dont really like it. I like having my foot on the pedal and I feel less alert when using it. Not to mention that I dread the idea of falling asleep and the car going to same speed into a wall. :P

Why would that be eerie?
It's nice when you're driving a million miles on the highway somewhere.
