Believe what you want, Zan. I've grown up with a brother who was a pothead, and had friends, when I was taking graphic design courses, who smoked it at night, at their place. Both were clean about it, yet you could smell it automatically when you went into their home, even then next morning hours upon hours after they'd last smoked. And I also smelled like pot when I left. And my clothes still smelled like pot the next morning when I put them in the washing machine.

My brother and my friends, just like you, were convinced that it didn't smell. Hell my brother thought he was fooling me and my parents when he smoked pot in his room. "It doesn't smell when I'm done!" No, maybe not to you, since you're dragging on the thing and are used to the smell. Anyone else who doesn't smoke, or doesn't smoke often, that I know agrees with me. It is a very distinct smell.

Just a note : I'm not saying you're bad for smoking pot. While I don't personally understand why people do it, I'm not one who's going to tell others what to do and not do. If that's how you get your kicks, its up to you. I just don't want the smell, which I personally find unbearable, imposed on me. Mind you, I'm tolerant. If it was a handful of nights in the summer, I wouldn't give it a second though. The issue in the case of my neighbours is that its every night or every other night for 2-3-4 months. Its a bit tough to endure. If you're not smoking up on your balcony every night stinking up the neighbours, you're not part of the problematic people. If you show up in public and the person nearby can smell it on you, then I'd say you're only embarassing yourself (not saying it is the case with you).

My only point is that most pot-smokers will tell you it doesn't smell, refuse to believe that it does, or more amusingly will tell you it smells good, when in fact most non-smokers do smell it, and find the smell unappealing. Neither side will ever agree on this. Its part of personal opinions, beliefs and perception. Just like some people find having sex while playing WoW is appealing. Or spanking the mb nightly.

i always thought pot smelled nice, even before i smoked.

but yeah, it is distinctive, and it sticks around a while.

I sometimes smoke in my room, and it smells like it for a couple days or hours, depending on how much I smoke. So yeah, I believe you when you say that the smell sticks for a while. Today I washed my bed sheets, that had a very strong ciggarette smell. I don't even smoke on my bed, I smoke at my window.
