Error Installing Farcry
2004-03-27, 1:15 PM #1
I got an error installing the game Far cry... It is an Windows Installer 1607 Runtime Error. I have tried lookin everyone on google and tried to fix the problem, but it has not helped. I have full administrative powers on the computer so that is not an issue.

I have Windows XP, if that helps.

*sighs* HOW MANY TIMES MUST I ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS!!

For this, you must take the blood of a virgin chicken, and pour it into the computer. If you hear some fizzling and popping don't worry, fire's even better!! Also, put 1000 magnets onto the monitor. Then set up a camcorder, dance in front of the computer in a circle, singing "I eat babies" in a high A, and spontaneously combust. If that doesn't work, try another disk drive...but I implore you to TRY THE FIRST OPTION FIRST!

Try disabling your CD-drive's DMA mode.

If you've got WinXP:
Rightclick My Computer -> Properties
Hardware -> Device manager
IDE ATAPI/ATA -> Secondary IDE
Advanced -> set both drives to PIO only.

If you're using some predecessor, I think you can find it by rightclicking yer CD drive in My Computer somewhere.

See if that helps and report back?
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

nope nothin works... Did what you guys said and still no dice.

I think I need to get Windows Installer updated but I need to have my Windows CD, which I don't have cuz the people at Circuit City put together my computer. (No I didn't pay them to do it, they did it for free)

The exact error name is "1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime"

I cant even choose what drive to install to and everythin cuz it won't even start installing. It does this bull**** before the installation starts.

Other games have installed fine so somethin is wrong with this one. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Doesn't Farcry come on several CD's?

If the error always happens on the same spot, then try selecting all the contents of the first CD and/or the problematic CD and copying them to your harddrive. If there's something that won't copy then your CD is corrupt and you'll need a replacement. Try starting the install from the harddrive install.exe/setup.exe in the directory you copied the first CD.

You could also try installing from Safe mode?

Then there's always e-mailing tech support at www.ubi.com .

Hope that helps.

1. No it ain't warez, I bought the game from EB Games.

2. The problem is with Windows Installer. Whenever it tries to open the .msi file, it gives me the error.

3. It had somethin to do with a bad msiexec.exe file from what I can gather

I installed IsScript9.zip which was supposed to fix my problem. Now, instead of gettin an 1607 error, I get a 1608: Unable to create InstallDriver Instance, Return Code -2147221021

man... I have Windows XP and I looked on the microsoft site. They are saying that windows installer can be downloaded for Windows 2000 and down, because Windows Installer already comes with XP.

I can't find a download for Windows XP...

Now, apparently I can't install ANYTHING.

Actually I just installed something using WISE install. Is there anyway I can use that to install everything else?

Like I said before, that file isn't for Windows XP.

I looked everywhere for a file that would install Windows Installer on my ****ing computer but they don't have one for XP anywhere, because apparently they figured that since it came with XP, that no one would need it.

If I could just ****ing install that stupid **** they call a program, then I could go on with my ****in life but noooooo, they have the make this bull**** hard as **** to fix. What I'm thinkin now is that I have to backup all my ****ing files and then send it off to korea or whatever to have them fix this ****.

**** it, I'm takin this stupid game back... no point in having something that just makes me pissed off.

Yeaaaahh... i had a problem with this. What i did with the demo, was install it on the upstairs computer (or a friends computer if you have one that has a PC that insatalls it) then i burned the files it installed onto CD-Rs and then pasted them onto my PC from those, and it worked.

So unless you didnt take it back already... It's not an XP problem, because it installed on my upstairs (XP) PC and it worked.

naw see, I got a problem that won't let me install ANYthing that ends with .msi.

Something is wrong with my windows installer and THAT is what is pissing me off. It means in the future, I won't be installing ANYTHING on my computer unless it goes thru WISE install.

Anyways, I don't have another computer that has a CD burner, and I don't wanna bother my friends over a stupid game.

I think I'm just gonna have to go to Circuit City and have them try to fix it or whatever...

just called circuit city and they refuse to fix it because it is software related rather than hardware.

so now I have no other options, I guess I won't be installing anything on this computer anymore...

****in a [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

as for buying windows, I don't have the 200 bucks needed for it.

Borrow it off someone. Friends, relatives, classmates, coworkers, someone you know owns a copy of Windows.

The problem with this solution is that then the registry doesnt get updated... Although to be honest, I've no clue what the potential problems are that could arise.
