Playing JK again...
2009-03-29, 11:35 AM #1
If I were to put something together to make matchmaking, making sure we all had the same patches, and such easier, would you all play JK again?

I'm willing to put the time/resources in if there's enough interest.

auto level download!

2009-03-29, 11:41 AM #3
I've lost my copy forever ago... would a downloaded version work online?
2009-03-29, 11:42 AM #4
I would. The first step is getting JK to run on my Vista home edition.

Or getting it to run on newer ATI cards T.T

JK runs fine on Vista. You have to run it in windowed GUI mode. The rest is fine.

I was planning on doing auto level-patch download and hosting it all on my server. MD5 checking for anything in the resource/episode folder to keep cheating down.

Also it's probably going to be a separate install of JK, so it should handle installing it for you, since the installer won't work on 64bit.

Any other ideas?

I'd play!
DO NOT WANT.
2009-03-29, 12:19 PM #11
I'll be ready to play in about 2 days.
2009-03-29, 12:28 PM #12
if I could get my hands on a copy of the game, absolutely.

then again, I'm most interested in playing unmodded nf ctf, which was a niche market even when jk was alive
2009-03-29, 12:30 PM #13
Fixed netcode is all I'd need to start playing JK.

If you don't have a copy, just download a torrent or rapidshare files. Stop trying to find copies of CDs of a 10+ year old game that has been out of production since the cows came home and died.

Zeq has some kind of matchmaking or server listing in JK Launcher.

yes but no auto-downloading and no protection from cheating!

Anyone here cheat? Nooooo never....

On the bright side, a JK superbowl would probably bring all the old time lurkers out of hiding.

I think we should set aside one game with everyone using hacks.

...or just one simple game. You don't need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Cheats in JK are the most fun cheats I've ever seen. They're not douche cheats like god mode, you build stuff with them! :awesome:
DO NOT WANT.

Yea building stuff on the Maw map was the best.

Tower of ramps and landing pads, anyone? :awesome:

2009-03-29, 3:37 PM #24
It wouldn't be cheating if everyone had the "mod"

Just submit the build mod, that way everyone who joins the game can use it. :)

JK is probably the only game I can play since I'm using a crappy 64meg video card

Which of course means you can't use any 16-bit textured levels/mods.
2009-03-29, 4:53 PM #28
I'd probably play some. Gotta love reliving old JK days.
yay for not posting much ever

Windowed GUI mode. The game starts in a window and goes full screen when you actually play.

Mind explaining how to enable this specific mode?
2009-03-29, 5:26 PM #31
Use the -windowgui command line switch.

That only works in 32-bit Vista. I've not had any luck getting JK to run in 64-bit.

AH I remember now, it wasn't that that was the problem, it's when I enable 3D, it causes HOM all over, making it unplayable. I have to play with 3D off.

Kyle90: it works on 64bit for me, except for above 3D acceleration issue
2009-03-29, 6:35 PM #34
Sad fat.
2009-03-29, 6:53 PM #35
heck yes i would play again! i would even try and make mp levels again, its so much more fun to edit if other people play the level.

That isn't Vista though, it's your video card. I assume you have an HD4800 series? Mine does the same, regardless of the OS.

I'd like to screw around again. Bet I can't find my CD though.

Yes, but I recall it doing the same with my 8800GTS as well.

It might. As I remember, LEC used some strange DirectX voodoo to get the visibility algorithm to run on hardware instead of software. Newer cards don't always like that.
