HL2 Question
2009-04-19, 2:02 PM #1
So seriously, I'm playing Half Life 2 for the first time. I just beat down these two guys with a crowbar, and got a handgun from one of them. But now I have to bust through these wooden planks to go through this doorway, and I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SWITCH BACK TO THE DAMN CROWBAR!! Help, please? (quickly)

Hit escape, go to options, keyboard (i think) and click advanced options, and select 'fast weapon switch', as well

check the manual?

I don't really have a manual. it's Orange Box. Anyway, I got past the part cause I shot the planks with the gun, but I'd rather not waste valuable bullets on that stuff. (I ran out of ammo, and it switched back to the crowbar) immediately afterword, ironically.)

Not as well as on PC. HL was a computer game, and it was meant to be played as one.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I hated hl2. I thought the story was boring, the physics puzzles were incredibly forced and unrealistic, and the music out of place. However, the episodes are a different story. I like 1 & 2 quite a bit more.

well I did, but I forgot about the d-pad.

also:
OMG headcrabs!

also:
I'm actually enjoying the puzzles quite thoroughly. Granted, the last time I really got into an FPS was Jedi Knight, so my standards aren't very high.

I completely agree. I played through a few levels on my old PC (up to not long after the boat-like part).

Once I got my new PC, it took mass amounts of courage and boredom to be able to push through that part again. The entire game was dull as can be.

Episodes though, I love them.

Wth, JK was a fantastic FPS.

well of course, for its time. But it simply cannot compete with even mediocre titles of today's time. I'm not trying to belittle JK, just saying how behind the times I am. For example, I'm in awe over being able to pick up and set down crates and such.

JK is, what, 12 years old at this point? Give it a break.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.
2009-04-19, 6:52 PM #24
And the first place award for MISSING THE POINT goes to gbk.
:p

once again. I'm criticizing my lack of FPS familiarity, not JK's quality.

I realized your point AFTER I posted. I was too lazy to change it.

[/grumpy old man]

JK's gameplay is still really good, but yeah, the graphics suck. And, yeah, you're out of the loop if the last FPS you played was JK! :)

I really like the Half-life series - especially the Episodes. But the first Half-life game still holds some magic for me... I think it came out the same year as JK, didn't it?

2 later. 1999. :)

I agree though, Half-Life was a great game, and it's still amongst my favorite.

Wasn't too keen on HL2. It was ok.
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

I liked OpFor better than HL.
2009-04-19, 7:56 PM #29
OpFor was badass.
2009-04-19, 8:06 PM #30
This summer I'm finally going to finish Half-Life. Maybe OpFor and Blue Shift too. I tried to play through HL once but I gave up about a third of the way through. Don't remember why.

I got sick of HL around when you first start encountering the black ninja assassin people. But I dug HL2 so go figure.

Blue Shift is pretty good, so is Uplink (the demo!).

in Ravenholme you should be focusing on gravity gun, theres objects everywhere to fire (I note the mattress has been nerfed... yes, you read that right) and the ammo for your other guns is not as plentiful as it is in the rest of the game.
