I was born in one country and live in another and have travelled to like 7 others

Edit: Those seven include Italy, France, Switzerland, Britain, Mexico, Japan, and ... uh ... I might've stepped into Canada for like 10 minutes when I was in Washington State but I don't remember. Oh, and the Vatican. If that counts.

Canada, Mexico and Chile.

Mexico counts because I didn't go to any of the tourist areas if Mexico. Visted my aunt and uncle in Hermosillo.

Canada was a canoeing trip in Quetico.

To give some context to this. Baconfish and I were talking and he said that Americans never left the country (or at least the continent) And a lot of people at my pub in Cyprus were saying the same thing.

My argument is that maybe a lesser proportion of people in the US leave the continent because our own country is so big and because it's harder for us to travel to Europe than it is for Europeans to travel to Europe, but the number of us that travel is nowhere near as small as people are trying to make it seem. One guy was trying to convince me that only 1% of us ever travel outside the US.

My study abroad program in Oxford: 30 students
Cyprus: 22
Vienna: 8
France: 4

On top of all of those, I know at least 20 people from high school and college off the otp of my head who have left the continent. That's just in the people that I know. I'm just saying the proportion isn't nearly as small as people like to claim.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

I was just in Guatemala for 2 weeks, as luck would have it. So yes. I've also been to Ireland twice and Scotland.

An argument that I agree with, but theres another 5 continents that aren't Europe and North America.

:P

[I also said you never seem to leave North America unless you're visiting Scotland or Ireland. :ninja:]
nope.

Yeah, we can't just hop in a car and drive to another country around here. I live in the US, have been to Canada, and went on vacation for a few weeks in Ireland. I'm no globetrotter. However, I have been to almost all the good states in the US and a few of the bad ones, and lived in 4 of them. So...I think I'm pretty good on visiting sovereign entities. :D I ain't made of money, though, I can't be driving and flying all over the place spendin' money!

Edit: And you're right about Scotland and Ireland, I'm glad to have supported your theory! haha. They're like little weirdly European americas, and I think we like that. I liked it.

I don't think that a Massassi poll will be very revealing on this count. While members of the middle class (which probably constitutes most of Massassi's membership) have probably traveled out of country, you have to keep in mind that a huge portion of America's population consists of people who grew up, went to school, lived, and died all within the same rural corner of their state.

Barely, I went to The Bahamas once.

I'm the opposite ... I've probably been to more countries outside of the US than states in the US. Or at least an equal number. I don't THINK I've been to more than 7 states.

Most Americans don't leave the country because they have no reason to. It's not like you're in a crappy country like England where everyone wants to get out of the cramped overpriced mock-monarchy.

I think that kind of thinking is a pretty good reason to explore places outside America.

Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I've been to 17 different countries (other than the U.S.) on five continents.

Canada, Jamaica, about to fly to Tonga with a stop in Fiji. Tonga flight is for a job though, so I'll only be there 2 days before jumping on a ship.. Paid flight though, which is cool.
