Its controversial in my case. I have two nationalities, so therefore I am in my country and at the same time I am not. :ninja:
Nothing to see here, move along.

US and Canada only .(
2009-05-20, 9:54 PM #44
Born in New Zealand. Lived in US for four years as a child. Came back to New Zealand again.
Countries been to: 2 :)
I'm wanting to go on a short trip around the world in the next year or so.
Likely to visit at least another 5-8 countries along the way I hope.

Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea

I've never left the country (Aussieland) and I can probably count on my fingers how many times I've left my state.

I've been to Mexico.. which was a blasty blast.
2009-05-21, 1:44 AM #49
I've been to:

England (where I live)
Ireland
Scotland
Wales
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Spain
Austria
Germany
Italy
Vatican City (does that count?)
Hungary
Slovenia
Croatia
Serbia
Bosnia
Slovakia
Czech Republic
Poland
Bulgaria
Romania
Canada (I am a Canadian citizen, this was an emigration attempt)
United States
South Africa (Visiting family)

The bulk of that was an inter-railing journey around Europe. I only spent a day in Romania for example before I high-tailed it out of there.

Oh that's awesome! We didn't spend much time in Limassol, we more or less just went through it a couple of times, but our bus driver's son is doing his military training in Limassol I think.

We spent most of our time in Larnaca, though we also went to Paphos, Nicosia, Agia Napa and Lefkara

I would have thought this argument is more just about how astonishing it is, in this day and age, that anyone could reach maturity without going abroad. Obviously there are people who literally can't afford to travel for pleasure, but they're unlikely to be represented here.

I've only been to (editing Martyn's list)
England - born
Scotland - live (still arguing with friends/family over whether I count as an expat)
Both Irelands
Wales
France
Malta
Greece
US

I didn't go anywhere until I was 18. Like I said, it's not quite as easy for us.

Especially since various states of ours are the size of entire countries there.

When we take off for a week and drive around, we hit 10 different states. When you Europeans take off for a week and drive/ride around, you hit 10 different countries.

If I remember correctly, Ohio is even bigger than England, and Ohio is not exactly the largest state.
2009-05-21, 6:24 AM #59
Exactly. I don't know that a lot of Europeans really grasp the size of the US.

Never left the western world, but I've been to Germany, France, Switzerland, and England.

Been to 14 states, on a tangent.

Favorite place is still the Bryce and Zion national parks area in the southwest.

Eh. The only times I went abroad before I was 18 were all on school trips.

Parents were never big on holidays, let alone actually getting on a boat or an aeroplane.

exactly, how many of us American's have piled into the station wagon or minivan to be driven for days across the US and visited the same number of states that a European might have from their home.

on that note, i've been into Canada for at least 30 miles or so but i've been all over the US
