What a crappy movie. I just watched it for the first time last night. The special effects are horrible. The martial art action is beyond pathetic. The story was flat and snooze-worthy.

I kept hearing it was a loved movie. Do you folks actually like this movie?

Its loveably ****e!

It wasn't anything special, but I seem to remember being entertained by it when I saw it back in the day.

Are you saying you didn't even enjoy "multi-pass?" >.>

Honestly I didn't find the girl attractive. Not one bit. Too skinny. Itsy bitsy breasts. Ugly eyes. Nearly invisible eyebrows. Badly dyed orange hair with a 1 inch regrowth of blond hair. Not to mention that hopelessly lost, stupid girls are just not attractive.

Just not my type whatsoever.

I haven't seen it in years but it was pretty neat back then.

Jep: I was actually referring to the scene(s) where she says 'multi-pass' which I found amusing -- not suggesting that she was super-hot in that movie.

Admitedly the comedy was entertaining. That was its one redeeming factor.

In 1997 it was a great Bruce Willis film. I liked it a lot.

Star Wars is from the late 70s / early 80s and it has better special effects

So does Back to the Future

I've got a copy on my laptop at home. Fear not.

It gets better and better every time you watch it.

I hated it at first too. Now it's one of my favorite movies.
2009-05-27, 7:02 AM #21
It's almost a parody movie. You have to watch it for the ridiculous nature of it.

It's sci-fi with a French aesthetic. Probably more realistic than any of us actually want.

For the most part, I though New York's look, and the whole air cab thing was great. On the other hand those traffic lights around earth were ****ing ridiculously cheesy and dumb.

I was in it for the blue chick. Y'know. The one where Corbin digs the stones out of?

Also, techno-opera.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

You have to think of it as kind of a "cool" bad movie.

In fact, I think it was made to "make fun of" the genre.

It has, of sorts, become a classic.

And the guy who played Bilbo Baggins. And Milla Jovovich. And Chris Tucker.

The movie itself was alright.

What I really, really, REALLY, hate about it is that Milla Jovovich plays the girl. Yuck. What a terrible, terrible actor.

Oh yeah, and she's got less curves/breasts THAN I DO.

I loved it also. I think Milla Jovovich is extra hot. Also, I love all the transitions between the scenes where one character a galaxy away seemingly finishes another's sentence. I didn't think the special effects were bad at all. Did you watch it on bluray or something? Sometimes they really bring out the crappy effects that aren't even noticeable on dvd.

the effects don't looks crappy on bluray

some look a tad dated but no more than any other film from the time

Even though it was intended to be a bit whimsical, it was a great movie at the time...and even still today in many respects.

I concur. and Jovovitch is hot. AND Its not supposed to be some extra fantastic super realistic 20 million dollar production scifi or something

Its an action comedy, and almost borderline parody.

Personally I think its an excellent movie and securely in my top 5.

I bought it used a while ago without having seen it, and I thought it was a lot of fun. I wasn't expecting Star Wars or some life-changing sci-fi odyssey, just a fun action flick. And it delivered.
2009-05-27, 10:13 AM #40
The way people talked about it to me, I thought it was some great epic sci-fi movie like Star Wars and the likes. So obviously thats why I didn't like it. Had I gone in expecting amusing cheesy science fiction, I'd have probably loved it.
