Never go into a movie expecting anything. You'll rarely be disappointed. :)
2009-05-27, 10:22 AM #42
Yea, that is usually my philosophy and as stated, I'm rarely disappointed. (I even managed to enjoy Ghost of Girlfriends Past recently, lol :P)

I guess I'd just heard too much praise about this movie over the years.

Would you like to have a yes no yes no no yes yes no argument or are you going to provide a reason why you feel that way.

Everything in 5th Element felt like cardboard and plastic to me. It didn't feel very realistic. It all looked extremely cheap. While some space battles and cab flight scenes looked great, it was counterbalanced by ridiculous and cheap looking crap like the alien monks' armor, the wierd balls of papier maché chirping like mice being burnt from the ship reactors, zorg's idiotic outfit and hair do.

Admitedly, I think I've mispoke. Special effects were great, cosmetics were horrible.

Sometimes a statement is so overwhelmingly wrong a simple "no" is all that could, or even should, be provided, so I just figured I'd let the facts speak for themselves. Or I could just quote the end of your last post :P

One of the funnest movies out there. It's not at all an "epic scifi" movie.

You know Jep, the first time I saw it, I thought it was stupid. I had to ask people "why did you like it?" I was probably in fifth grade or something. It grew on me over time though.

Another interesting thing is that I named my cat after Lilu Dallas. It's interesting because I put in my VHS tape to find the spelling, and it was in the credits as "Lilu." However, sites like imdb list her name as LeeLoo. I have no idea what is up with that.
2009-05-27, 11:04 AM #54
I'm pretty sure the DVD version said Leeloo last night.

That was kinda the point though, wasn't it? 266 years of runaway consumerism. Everything is cheap, extreme, and aimed at the lowest common denominator (which, thanks to the Japanese, mandates the French aesthete).

I love "The Fifth Element". Luc Besson is the man! However, maybe it isn't a timeless movie. Maybe it's one of those movies that you just had to watch when it came out. I haven't seen it in quite a few years myself.

Personally I think its an excellent movie and securely in my top 5.

You're lucky I live in Canada, because I'd have shot you by now.

Seriously. She has no ****, no eyebrows, and is thinner than air. You calling Jovovitch hot is more confusing that the creation of the universe, or anything else in it.

But whatever, to each his own.

Honestly I didn't find the girl attractive. Not one bit. Too skinny. Itsy bitsy breasts. Ugly eyes. Nearly invisible eyebrows. Badly dyed orange hair with a 1 inch regrowth of blond hair. Not to mention that hopelessly lost, stupid girls are just not attractive.

Awesome movie, definitely one of my favorites of all-time. Completely agree here though. I don't undestand how it is remotely possible for people to think Mila Jovovich is even close to attractive. Yeah, I absolutely love girls that are so skinny when they turn around you can see their SPINE THROUGH THEIR SKIN.

What's the point in keeping stupid people around if not to explain to them why they are stupid?

I did basically point that out myself, yes.
But when ones pet peeve arises one addresses it. Especially since this is spreading and needs to be squished.
