New Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M

Now all we need is another Zelda...

These games coupled with Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers, No More Heroes 2, and The Conduit make me a happy boy.

A pretty good E3, even if Nintendo did pull a fast one on us until the last 10 minutes. Sneaky jerks.
Think while it's still legal.

The New Super Bros with 4 players looks nothing more than a cheap cash in unless they somehow convince me otherwise.

The Wii "Vitality" peripheral looks like a bad joke. What the hell.

The only real thing that interests me from that E3 press conference was Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: The Other M. Team Ninja in charge of a new Metroid game? I'm not sure.

E3 events are becoming more and more hard to digest. I don't want to play teenage girl games on the DS or check Facebook on a console (I have a computer for that.)

It was better than last year's atrocious Nintendo conference. But I wanted to see more uses for Motion+ seeing it suddenly gave the Wii the overdue motion-sensing capabilities.

I'm tired of these conferences trying to outdo each other by "reinventing gaming". I don't care.

What about Valve? What have they done? Or is E3 not over yet? I don't keep up with these things.
DO NOT WANT.

Valve is doing Left 4 Dead 2. It was announced yesterday during the Microsoft conference (for some reason).

A sequel to a game not even a year old kinda makes me ...eh.

Especially when it never had enough content to justify the pricetag in the first place.
nope.

I agree. What the hell, Valve.

If this was DLC or expansion pack, I would think it would be suitable.

Well, L4D2 does come with all the content of L4D1 with it, so it's a good thing for people (like me) who could never afford L4D.
DO NOT WANT.

Is new super mario wii a redo of new super mario for ds or is it a whole new game? If it's a whole new game maybe I'll hold off on selling my wii till I play it.
2009-06-02, 2:52 PM #13
It looks to be a whole new game, as the level structures don't look familiar and I'd be surprised if they could adapt the DS version for 4 players. I do hope that we'll have the blue koopa shell replaced with a new item or two though - it was a cool idea, but I think they could do better.

For that matter, I hope SMG2 is different enough from SMG1 and not just new levels. Even if it's not though, it's cool that they're making a second, which will be a first since the early 90's really.

I have no strong interest in the Metroid game (I keep trying to get into the Prime series but find it difficult to get into for some reason), but yay for that too. :)

... is that seriously all they're releasing for L4D? I kind of figured this would go the way of TF2, not end there. I feel kind of ripped off now.

Actually I didn't hear it had old content, but I do know it has 5 new campaigns that fit together into a storyline (they tried that with L4D but it didn't work out). Also there will be the three existing game modes from get go, plus one secret one they won't disclose yet. Plus an addition mode released later as DLC. Also Valve has announced they intend to make this one "long lived" more like TF2 with DLC. They wanted to change some fundamental aspects of the game and so it made sense to them to make it a sequal instead of DLC. Or so I reads.

Probably because it's coming out for PC and Xbox 360.

Being the Metroid fanboy that I am, I have to say that the video from Team Ninja's Project M, couldn't have nailed it any better. THIS is what Metroid should have been when it came to 3d. Don't get me wrong, the prime trilogy is fun, but its not metroid.

It's really, really way too soon to tell. There was hardly any real gameplay footage.

If Metroid Prime is not "Metroid", I guess Mario 64 is not a Mario game.

Prime is Metroid, you're just a fanboy of the 2d perspective being the ONLY option EVER for it to be called Metroid.

Metroid Prime lacked a lot of the metroid elements. Taking it into first person mode was neat, but cut out a lot of room for special moves like speed run, wall jump, screw attack... the basics. Not to mention more fun stuff from SNES like the energy charge, weapons specials, and so on. Plus, the metroids in the Prime series were weak and pathetic... I remember in NES metroid, a metroid could finish you off quick.

Eh, L4D is good in short bursts. Like less than an hour each play.

I can't see myself playing it more than that.

L4D is best played in versus mode with friends. Every other mode, or just playing by yourself is way too boring. But having said that, L4D versus is ****ing awesome.

See, I'm a big fan of 2D side scrolling. I don't care if it's simple, it's FUN. Hence I really want a new Sonic game in the Mario DS / New wii sense. Everyone will say "Oh, Sega are just copying Nintendo" and I will say SO ****ING WHAT?! SONIC WAS GREAT AND THIS WILL BE FUN.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
2009-06-04, 1:52 PM #26
The only way we're ever going to see another decent Sonic game is if someone buys Sega and fires every single person at Sonic Team.
2009-06-04, 2:06 PM #27
I was just saying to mb on msn (whilst doing my best to ignore Big Brother) that Sega should outsource it to Nintendo instead. As long as they didn't think "let's make it crap to make Mario look good" they'd do a much better job than most.
2009-06-04, 2:06 PM #28
We'd probably see a new sega console first.
nope.
2009-06-04, 2:18 PM #29
Nintendo can't put out a decent 2D platformer anymore either - NSMB had loose, unresponsive controls and the most uninteresting level design I've ever seen in a Mario game. The New Nintendo also has absolutely no problem with fan service, which is the disease that killed Sonic Team a long time ago. They're probably the last company I would ever want to make a new Sonic.

Pretty much. Furries keep unironically buying just enough copies of the new Sonic games that Sega can't afford to risk a new formula. Considering the tepid diarrhea Nintendo is excreting all over the market they wouldn't risk a new formula either. As long as Sonic keeps promoting bestiality they're guaranteed a certain number of sales regardless of how bad the game is, and that's worth more to these people than creating something they can be proud of.
2009-06-04, 2:40 PM #31
How sad.

Seriously, someone must be able to do a decent platformer - it was a mainstay of game design for so long that there must be someone out there able and willing to make a decent crack at it. Maybe Behemoth (of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers fame)? At least it'd be funny.
2009-06-04, 2:49 PM #32
Apparently the new Klonoa is some solid oldschool platforming fun.
nope.
2009-06-04, 2:51 PM #33
I enjoyed New Super Mario Brothers. To get through the game and win, it was pretty easy. Finding all the big coins or whatever they were in that game is really hard.
2009-06-04, 4:23 PM #34
I highly recommend Klona. The game was one of the best platformer back on the PlayStation. As for Metroid, I don't own a Wii, but it does look pretty good. Since Team Ninja is making it, you have to wonder if they'll add any "enhancements" to Samus.

That's reasonable, then. I think it would be great to have customizable characters. Make a long-running metagame on top of it -- that's how zombie apocalypse survival should be.
