Definitely not. Rebel Assault, Rebel Assault 2 and 7th Guest are almost entirely FMV.

Today I tried using fraps... it crashes JK as soon as I start capturing. Any tips?

...No they aren't, flapjacks are like a traybake biscuit thing made from oats, sugar, syrup and butter.

2.9.4

EDIT: I'm going to try older versions, but I can't find any.

2.9.8 is the latest version, try that first.

It's some British nonsense.

FINALLY!

The newer version works like a charm! My only beef is that the file size is uncompressed, and unresized.

Well, thats that.

But man, today I wanted to cry. When fraps wasn't working, neither was camstudio, game cam or hypercam, I was just going to loose. I'll be damned if I can do something as simple as recording a game and a voice overlay talking about it.

But its now working out. I expect to upload the video to youtube by monday or tuesday (heh its my birthday on tuesday! :P)

More questions!

When, where and how did the JK Editing tools come about?

as well as a number of other FMV games from the same time period

i remember seeing some old PC game at a goodwill with like 10 CDs... i bet it was because of the massive amount of FMV

fraps videos are not uncompressed... high bitrate but not uncompressed

and all that resizing and recompressing can be done with one of the many free video transcoding tools available

Aye thats true. But it means I can't record very much before I make a file too big to read.

lolwut? why would your computer have a problem opening a larger file? at the average bitrate of a fraps video at 640x480 29.97fps an hour of video will be under 2GB and chances are you'll be using a lower framerate (and likely a lower resolution) which decreases the video size even more

Seriously?

I mean, if I'm explaining all of this without you doing any original research whatsoever, am I going to get reporting credits?

Oh really? With those setting 30 seconds of video is over 300 megs ¬¬... atleast thats what its recording over here

Fraps uses lossless compression so it's:

1.) Fast,
2.) High quality,
3.) Not obscenely huge

At those settings 30 seconds of uncompressed video would be 1054 MB, assuming you didn't have any sound.
2009-07-01, 9:11 PM #64
Video recording takes up obscene amounts of disk space. It's fact. No way around it. Deal with it.

When you encode it into a more manageable format you can delete the huge source files and reclaim the disk space.

2009-07-01, 9:16 PM #65
ok i see what happened... my test weirded out on me... apparently vsync and fraps don't get along and cause video with dropped frames and much lower bitrate

but still why would you have a problem with reading the file? or are you stuck on FAT32... in that case i can see your potential problems with files over 4GB

1 hour at 640x480 29.97fps would be a touch over 20GB... as long as you have the free space for it and are using a file system that doesn't suck you shouldn't have any problems

2009-07-01, 11:35 PM #66
Jedi Knight doesn't have Vsync, are you using a wrapper or something?
2009-07-02, 1:03 AM #67
vsync can be forced in driver settings

try to be less of a noob

Did you even read my post? I said use SUPER to compress it back down to a manageable size and delete the source file! :eng101:
