What would you do with $20,000?
2009-07-31, 7:53 PM #1
Serious question to the community out of curiosity. Lets say somebody handed you $20,000 tomorrow, no more, no less, what would you do with it?

probably use it to live off of and use my income from a job to pay off bills

..live off the rest? You must have no debt and practically no expenses if you can live off 20k - and pay debt off - for any extended period of time..

My only debt is my mortgage.

So I'd probably fix my house and buy some flooring. Also I need a wedding ring.

I SHOULD use it to pay off the rest of my student loans.

I WOULD use it as a down payment on another car.

Use it to pay for a nice apartment for a year.

I'd use 15,000 to open up a computer shop, and the remaining 5 to sustain myself till the business becomes self sufficient.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Pffft, buying stuff with money you don't have. Sillies.

I recently got rid of a '95 F-150 because I couldn't park it in the city. It worked like a new truck.
My '98 subaru works like a charm (Aside from the fact I've been driving with no low beams or right passenger mirror but thats just laziness). Who needs new cars?

Not to say I don't have debts ... I gots a ****load of debt. But I don't plan on debts other then when I eventually buy a home. Just plain stupid IMO.

And speaking of debts....., JLee, can you get rid of violations in another state? :ninja:

I actually think the latest one is a tollbooth in NH.... I was on my way to the Hampton. Partied there a couple weekends ago.

I didn't read the entire thread but the smartest thing to do is always to pay off your debt & put the remainder in to an emergency fund. Most experts say that you should have at least enough money in your savings account to cover 6 months of living expenses. After these 2 things are done, it's probably a good idea to start saving &/or investing for your future.
? :)

Sure, it's also a good idea to save as much money as you can..but hell you only live once- doesn't hurt to have a little fun once in a while. :)

hmm, tommorow ehh, probably spend most of it once I get to japan in about a week (cause there aint that much interesting in cambodia that I could spend $20k on (i will be doing a tour in cambodia for about the next week, before heading to japan).

the rest would pay off credit card (holidays are expensive, esp hotels), and any remainder would go back into savings.

Though as ill be in japan during (and pretty much specificly FOR) comiket 76, I think I would find it VERY easy to spend 20k (even though some of it would be spent in akihabara).

I would use 7,000 to buy a wrestling ring, and use the rest to toss up or lease a large building somewhere and start my own wrestling promotion.

So many of you have so little an idea of how much money that is that it's kind of pathetic.

Hint : It's not a lot.

pay off debt. then save the rest.

$20k is pretty difficult to live off of for even a year if you have any sort of bills whatsoever.

hey, im well aware of how much little extra swag that 20k would get me in japan. (mostly cause I would probably blow it by buying expensive swag)

I have that much money, more actually, and it sits in the bank.

My income isn't enough for me to be able to build it up again, so it's there for when I really need it.

Set $1000 back for emergencies, use the rest to pay off debts. If any was left over, then that would go into the emergency fund as well.
