How much do you drink?
2009-09-05, 7:55 AM #1
Looking through the Favourite Alcohol thread I can see a lot of people here (naturally :p) are fans of drinking. I recently had a discussion with my girlfriend because she thinks she drinks too much and needs to cut back. I say her drinking is normal for our age (25 and 26 respectively) so long as we take care of our bodies during the week (working out, eating properly or at least somewhat so). Our drinking consists of usually a Large bottle of Red Wine on a Friday, A 750Ml bottle of Rum on Saturdays, and maybe (but not all the time) another large bottle of Wine on Sundays. I would think that's not a terrible amount to drink for someone our age...So..It got me thinking.

How much per week do you drink?

What does age have to do with it, assuming you're legal?

I probably average one drink a month, if even.
woot!

Age doesn't really necessarily have anything to do with it, but I would tend to think that younger people drank more than older people. When was the last time your grandpa drank a beer bong at a frat party?

You're a Cop. You don't count :D

Beats me, but I arrested some 70yo dude for DUI.

Every fraternity I have been inside has been nasty. I don't understand how people can tolerate being inside..

Cops often drink a lot, btw. Also comes with high divorce and high suicide rates. Fun, eh?

I drink sporadically, depending on how much cash I have and what mood i'm in! ranging from 1 drink in a fortnight upto a pint or 2 everyday and occasionally a big night out at weekends. It's rare that it gets that bad though.

I might have a few this weekend..I have not had a full day off since Wednesday of last week, and I have Sunday, Monday & Tuesday off. :D

Of course that doesn't mean there are the occasional drunk 70 year olds. I'm just saying I would think (I am not backing it up with stats because I am not claiming it to be fact) that younger people drink more and more often as well compared to older people who tend to be a bit more responsible in their decisions and have established and gotten to know their limits. Unfortunately there are always idiots in each category :(

I personally have never been to a frat party nor would I ever attend one. Those kinda things don't really interest me. I prefer to just hang out and drink, get drunk and hang out some more. I don't need to act like a moron or get drunk to the point where I can barely walk, that's just not necessary.

I was also joking about the cops not drinking. But your anecdote's would explain why some of them seem devoid of a sense of humor :D :P

Who knows, I drink a beer every couple of days probably. Then maybe every month or two I go and get hammered. I don't think it's excessive

I dont drink at all, but future wife (only 5 weeks to go EEEEEK), anyhow, drink about a bottle of Rose to her self each week, she used to be really bad at one point getting through about 3 bottles of red a week. I just dont see the point in drinking anymore, plus I dont like the smell of it either, it is fun watching people get slowly more and more drunk and just watching them fall over and talk crap all night!

I'm a pretty serious drinker. On Tuesday night last week between four of us we drank a bottle of Riesling, and I drank a bottle of Pinot Grigio on my own. Followed by a few bottles of Zoey's froo froo chick beer (Mike's Hard flavored beverages).

A typical party consists of rum, and lots of it. I'm particularly fond of Sailor Jerry's Sailor Rum (92 proof and tastes like cherries), and drink about half a handle in a night when at a party. Mixed with cola of course.

On average though, I'll go weeks on end without touching any alcohol. I typically only drink to excess and do so only socially. *shrug*

This is Massassi remember. You can't state assumed or obvious fact unless you have 5 seperate news articles and a wikipedia article with 3+ sources to back it up. Oh and fox news doesn't count. After this it must proceed to being approved by 6 out of 10 massassians to become a legit and acceptable fact. All other inquiries which do not meet the requirements will be met with a barrage of flames usually lasting one or two pages in any given thread.

I did however, have a friend who's grandpa would come in and play beer pong with us back in high school. He was a riot. Sadly he passed away in a motorcycle accident.

Probably about twenty drinks a week. Most of those are on the weekend, but I'll have a beer roughly every other weekday.

I'm 22

During the summer, I've been drinking quite a bit more but I will definitely try to cut back once I'm in school again. Probably 2-3 times a week I will drink 10+ oz of hard alcohol, and every once in a while (maybe once a month) I'll drink 10 < x < 20 oz (heavy drinking for me). I'll also have a drink with lunch or dinner once in a while, if I'm out.

If you guys are splitting the liquor listed in the OP, then I don't think your drinking is that much. If you are consistently chewing through a 26 oz on your own, unless you are a big guy that sounds pretty bingey.

2/3 beers a week...
that makes 1 liter of beer...
that makes 0.05 liters of alcohol per week...

I really don't know. I drink something (red wine, beer, etc.) on average every other week, but that's in part because I'm too lazy to go out and get my own stuff.

I imagine age is only a part of a number of physical factors such as weight, sex, ethnicity, etc. but it does sound like you drink slightly more than I'd think is healthy, Temp.

The average at the moment is probably 0.05 drinks a month or something stupidly low. I don't drink solo and I've generally not been drinking alcoholic stuff when out because I didn't really want to.

That, and the fact that I'm a lightweight as it is. Okay, there's good and bad to that but it certainly feels awkward to have two drinks and feeling deceptively relaxed when everyone else is still mostly normal.

I've purposefully drank alcohol 3 times in my life. I'm not exactly desperate to do it more often.
2009-09-05, 2:07 PM #25
Since I moved back home in March I think I've drank about 3 times.

All times were within the last month, a few pints at my Dad's 50th, christ knows what the next day on one hell of a pub crawl, and probably my body weight the week after at a party. Said party was probably the drunkest I have ever been. :/
nope.

Up until 2 years ago, I drank once per year, maybe twice if lucky.

I don't drink at all. I work with enough people who do drink to put me off for life. Plus they probably drink enough for the both of us.

If I'm out with the guys I'll drink a Maker's & Coke or a Budweiser. If I'm out with my wife or at home we typically drink wine (something from the Bordeaux region). I don't drink nearly as much as I'd like to.

I would say older people drink more than younger people. Sure it may seem like all the kids are doing it when you are surrounded by people your age. But just go to any bar that isn't anywhere near a campus or some kind of "club". You'll probably count more people in their 40's.. Besides us 20 year olds haven't developed alcoholism yet, but for everyone else, they NEED the alcohol so they are probably drinking it more.

When I have it, a glass of wine or a bit of beer with dinner. I just do it for taste, I don't like getting buzzed or anything.

I only drink heavy with friends and when competition sets in.

I don't drink anymore. At all. I hate the stuff. Never want to taste another drop, never want any in my home, I want nothing to do with it.
