Name That Game FREE FOR ALL TEXT EDITION

Here you will give hints on what game you're thinking of, and others will attempt to guess. Try to give something that isn't directly googleable (like direct quotes are). Because this is FREE FOR ALL, everyone can post new hints at any time and anyone can guess other people's games at any time. There aren't really any other rules either, though it could get pretty lame if you only posted about games that your friend made and never released or something.

I shall start. The game has a main boss who has a trademark laughter which he uses pretty much every time you meet him.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Yes the new one was made by Raven, who seems to make 50% of FPS's.

The game was an RPG with FPS elements. It was the second game built on a now relatively popular engine. The game was originally hindered with multiple bugs, yet achieved somewhat of a cult status for some gamers. It was also the last game the developer company made, and the disappointing sale figures closed the studio out of business.

That is correct.

Are you sure about the release dates, though?

According to GameSpot they were both released on the 16th of November, 2004. But essentially you're right, it's apparently not quite the "second" game built on the HL2 engine, as they were being developed simultaneously.

I'm fairly certain Bloodlines got the earlier release, though that may be just in Europe.

Anyway.

This game is regarded as the greatest platformer of all time, it was difficult enough that many people (myself included) opted to use the infinite lives cheat. I had the priviledge of meeting the original developers who now work for a small game development company based in Leamington Spa. The game features dungeons and castles and dragons and a bottomless well.

The game's publisher (currently subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment) used to have an owl on their logo. The game also had a lot of in common with the original Alone in the Dark games.

I know who developers are... you must be talking about Psygnosis... dunno the game though.
2009-09-13, 12:04 PM #36
Yep. Except they are the publishers, not the developers. There are two games in the series (although I've only played the first one), released in 1994 and 1997 respectively.
