JKHub, for the win.

Awesome, just awesome! Thanks you guys! I propose naming it the "Because LEC won't" patch.

I will check it over tonight and get some comparison shots, I had some from another thread but they weren't really the greatest examples. The effect was generally not very noticeable.

Wow... fantastic. Even though I'm running XP and JK works for me anyway, this is awesome for so many people on newer systems/graphics cards. :D

:D Sorts out framerate and dithering issues on DX10 cards too. I was getting 30fps before , now only capped by vsync. LOVE!

I assume this works for MotS too?

Anyway, fantastic work guys! :D

Confirmed working perfectly on

Steam JK
Windows 7 RC
8800GTX.

Antialiasing appears to work too.

I just tested (on Vista 32, nvidia geforce 8800 gts v190.x driver) in both JK and MotS. The wrapper works for both JK and MotS.

You guys single-handedly saved JK for another generation -- seriously, if it works on Windows 7 my 3yr old will be able to play it in a few years. Quick someone make a cover system mod like Gears of War.

Back in my day...
2009-09-25, 3:47 PM #55
Hmm, I remember JK used to be able to tun at native res, but now that option is gone.
2009-09-25, 3:56 PM #56
I don't ever remember an option that just said "native" or something. It seemed I always had to choose a resolution.

I have something interesting to report:
Mysteries of the Sith works fullscreen in the menus, and supports my native res, JK however goes black on the menus (forcing me to use -windowgui) and only goes up to 1280x1024.

Any ideas whats up?

Very nice work guys. Thank you!

Regarding dithering/crappy colors. I posted a comparison of shots I did between my 8800GT and x850xt here: http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=55146&page=3#post1028216 Those shots were taken of course before the wrapper was available.

This comparison uses the wrapper for both.
Here is my x1800xl: http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3416/x1800xl.png

And here is the same shot with my HD4850: http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/2702/4850small.png

Is no one else noticing this problem? If you're in say, Canyon Oasis which has virtually no shadows you really won't notice it. But its fairly obvious in those shots, all taken from level 1 of single player.

It is almost certainly the same issue encountered with Thief/System Shock 2 described here: http://www.ttlg.com/FORUMS/showthread.php?t=113501 The thread features timeslip's fix.

So the wrapper fixed that for you El Scorcho?
2009-09-25, 8:13 PM #62
The second compare shows that no, it didn't
I have the same problem too, I thought it was the monitor, but I took screens and it shows it to be the card.
2009-09-25, 8:15 PM #63
Ah, he said it was used for both, missed that.

I think I found a bug. When I boot up JK with your patch I can play in the highest resolution possible (IIRC 1900x1200 or something) but if I launch JK via ZED's save JKL and test command we crash out. I used to get some kind of error in the log but I haven't been able to replicate it (the error message, not the crash).

If I do save JKL and test then go into the setup menu the highest resolution available under 3D acceleration is 1024x768 and if I select that and then go single player -> debug -> my level it works fine (also running in software mode doesn't cause any problems).

I get no such problem.

I haven't played JK in about 2 years, I'll buy it on steam and check this out soon. Makes the level contest seem slightly less absurd.

Now if we could get rid of bad netcode lag...?

This is possibly caused by JED setting the path in the command line. The game might be looking in the path of your project for the DLL instead of in it's own install directory, so of course it can't find it.

Yeah, I don't think the resolution behavior is anything new. I have a widescreen 1680x1050 monitor. Although JK is very odd for its era in that it supports widescreen aspect ratios as options (albeit, showing up as vert-, although with a little cog work you can make MotS do Horizontal+ instead) it doesn't show 1680x1050 or the 4:3 version of 1400x1050. It gives me 1360x1024 though which is almost 4:3 and running 1:1 pixel scaling its basically as good for me. I wonder what people with higher resolution widescreens get.

What is odd though, is I believe the mouse movement has some weird scaling. Marking x and y axis sensitivity in the same place does not result in the same movement. I had to lower the y axis sensitivity more than x, and I wonder if it has to do with the widescreen resolution.
2009-09-26, 9:54 AM #72
I'm sure it was always like that. I always found the mouse sensitivities to be rather odd.

Widescreen 1680x1050 works fine... I've no real issue with vert - because unlike a lot of games, it's not a problem. You see the hud, etc... the aspect ratio appears fine too :)

Yay, works for me! The only problem I have is that all the menus are in windowed mode, and the game is in full screen. I also get a strange flickering of the windows gui flashing in and out and really low FPS for 20 seconds after switching from menu to in-game, then it smooths out to be the amazing JK I remember.

Now to get this JKLauncher working. By the way, wasn't there a script somewhere for mapping the scroll wheel to changing weapons?

I use that. :) Very convenient.

Now we just need fifth mouse button support, which I think Zeq was working on a few weeks back or something?

No I had to do that on my 5:4 screen too.

1. You guys are GODS.

2. You should work a way to contact steam/valve and have it released on there so people who purchased through it can utilize the 3d acceleration/no-issues

3. You guys are GODS.

So now that JK can work in all of the operating systems and we have the special key, don't you think we should maybe re-haul the front page and put that key front and center?

We could at least simplify with a link to JKHub for editing, a link to the levels section, a few articles about getting the new patch from JKHub, maybe some other articles highlighting the top 5 JKMP/SP levels/mods to download? Advertise the older level packs with more modern article-style pages?

We've got a massive amount of content just sitting around, and a 5 dollar game on Steam that runs in all operating systems to access them. These would take relatively no time to do, and would greatly increase the likelihood of generating traffic, new users, and some livelihood into the place.

Something other than the confusing landing page we have now.

I get a a flickering window overlay ingame along the right side of the screen and in the top left corner in the Steam version of both JK and Mots, havn't tried it in non-steam JK or MotS yet. Changing resolutions or anything else in the display settings will not remove it except going back to software mode. If i take an in-game screenshot it doesn't show up in the picture, but does if I use PrtScrn and paste into paint.

I'll poke around in my video card settings and see if there's some setting in there that might fix it.
