Cool. My dad always said things like "there's too many chemical additives in ****e beer. That's what gives you a sore 'ead."

Yeah, it's true of liquors like vodka and gin, though not so much for whiskey. As for German beers, they're not purer in any absolute or chemical sense, it's just that they're restricted to using fewer ingredients. In the case of Guinness this wouldn't really matter since the only thing that keeps Guinness from passing the German purity law is that it uses roasted barley in addition to malted barley.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Slice some fresh, juicy tomatoes. Put them in a bowl, add a little salt and grind some fresh pepper over it. And if you think you can stand it, add a little bit of basil or oregano.

Always works for me. It's rehydrating food, especially with the salt, and it's a lot of vitamin C. It's easy on the stomach too.
