1280x1024 @ 75Hz on my 19".

7 - the Hertz setting is the refresh rate of your monitor. The higher the number, the more times the image is redrawn to the screen. Lower ratings tend to cause flicker and can easily fatigue your eyes and cause headaches.

1280x1024 x 24 @ 60 Hz on my cheap envision 17" trinitron flatscreen CRT.

Your humble opinion is wrong.

Perhaps not to you but I can notice a significant difference at 60 Hz. The screen almost seems to "buzz" at me. That's probably not the best of ways of describing it but it's 2:15 AM so GIVE ME A BREAK! *shifts eyes* Not to mention at that refresh rate it absolutely hurts my eyes like no other.

1600x1200 on my 20" Apple CRT at home, 1158xwhatever the hell on my 17" in my dorm. I haven't used that res in ages, hah. I'd do 1280x1024 (the max) if it didn't flicker. It flickers in anything but this 1168 thing or whatever. I mean, anything higher.

1280x1024 on a 17" (15" Viewable) Monitor... For full-screen games, anywhere from 640x480 (UT2k4) to 1024x768 (JK, Morrowind). And I'm stuck with a Radeon 7000 for the time being... Bleah. I curse my younger brother and his 9600XT! He runs EVERYTHING at 800x600x32/x6/x16, AND gets 60fps!

Actually, my monitor recommends optimal resolution at 1280x1024, 60 hz. However, no way in Hell am I going below 75.

1280 x 1024 x 32 @ 60 Hz... my GeForce 4 can do like 2048 x 1536 x 32 @ 150 Hz, but sadly the above is the limit of my 17" Hansol 730 ED monitor. Oh well.

1024 x 768 with my 17 in. monitor. Although recently I tried the popular 1280 x 1024 and I like the extra space it gives.

I actually never had a problem with 60Hz, but i switched to 80Hz about a month back, and i decided to check 60Hz again, what with all the 'Mine Eyes!' stuff going on, and, well... MINE EYES!!
