Free Computerz !!!
2009-11-01, 6:30 PM #1
Time to balance my karma again so I can commit evil acts without guilt.

I have 3 computers that no longer serve any useful purpose to me, but could possibly serve someone else. I would like to give them away here to members of the Massassi community that could put them to good use. These computers are completely free, I will even pay for shipping. I do have a few restrictions:

1) You must have an 'established' Massassi forum account. If you signed up immediately after seeing this post or have a very low post count, I probably will disqualify you.

2) You must live within the Continental United States. (Shipping outside of US will cost me too much, Sorry.)

NOTE: I have removed my typical rule #3 about ineligible if you have previous received computer hardware from me.

I am only giving away the actual computer tower (The case, and internal components). You will need your own Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, and Speakers. These computers contain used/spare components, so no guarantees or warranties. One of my previous giveaways, resulted in a DOA computer. No Install Media Included, but all 3 PC's have WinXP COA stickers attached to case.

This time around all 3 computers are similar enough that I would prefer to only have 1 list.

They are all older dual core systems with XP Professional Installed. Here they are listed in order of performance:

#1) Athlon X2-4600+ (Socket 939), 2gb DDR, 160gb SATA, Geforce 7900GT 256mb(PCI-E), 500W PSU (Motherboard supports SLI + Overclocking)
#2) Athlon X2-4200+ (Socket 939), 2gb DDR, 160gb IDE, Geforce 7900GS 256mb(PCI-E), 500W PSU
#3) Pentium D 3.0ghz (Socket 775), 2gb DDR2, 80gb SATA + 60gb IDE, HD3650 (PCI-E), 500W PSU (Motherboard supports Overclocking)

Just respond with something like: “I want a free computer.” I will check this thread sometime Thursday Nov 5th and construct a list. I will feed the list thru the List Randomizer @ http://www.random.org/lists/

Randomly Picked Name #1 will win Computer #1 and so on... Winners will be notified by private message.

Also, if you wish to tell a story designed to evoke pity- like "I'm still using a Pentium3 and Win98!" go ahead. Maybe I can scrounge together something else for you.

Good Luck.

I could take one. Could give it to my friend that's in need of one. :)
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

I am NOT entering, because I got one last time (I know you said it's not a rule this time, but to be fair) Sadly the computers you are giving away now are better than my main PC.

I could really use one. I'm not going to try to play on sympathies or anything like that. Put my name in there. If it comes up it comes up. I would be very very happy, though.

On second thought, I will play one sympathy. I'm in physical therapy from a knee injury and can't work. Being broke and crippled counts for something, right?

I'd take one. My mom wants to turn her internet back on but her laptop is currently out of commission, one of these would be perfect!

BEFORE YOU HAND THESE OUT:

Give one to Vinny, particularly the one with the good video card (the radeon). He really deserves it much more than anyone else here IMO. His old gaming PC was straight up stolen, thus he's got some piece of crap now.
2009-11-01, 7:05 PM #12
I'd like to enter. Previous DOA recipient here. >_>

I've got a friend that could use a newer PC. He'd probably like an upgrade from a tnt2.

Its pretty awesome that you keep doing this. Randomizing is a nice touch too.

Wow, Each of those is worth atleast 200$.
Donate them to a school or a local charity, there is nobody on here that needs them as much as they would.

Just for that I have to go and steal a computer from charity. And they really could have used that computer. :nonono:

Indeed.

Put me in the lottery and if I win, give it to vin. If enough of us do that, he's almost guaranteed. :D

I think there should be a rule about "no entering for other people"

Sorry Vin. I feel for ya, but it just aint fair. And all you guys saying "I need one to give to a friend." This is a Massassi giveaway, not a "Greenboy's friend giveaway" (for example).

Er, what difference does it make? Would it have been okay if they entered for themselves but later decided to give it away?

2009-11-01, 9:56 PM #35
Making people not able to enter for others doesn't affect anyone elses chances.
2009-11-01, 10:00 PM #36
Yeah, but it gonna make the list of entries longer, because I'm sure *everyone* can think of some friend or family member who could use a computer. But presumably if you don't have a use for one, you shouldn't enter the contest so that odds will be better for those that do.

But anyway, I'm not gonna make a big deal about it. So don't blow this out of proportion and think I'm being a whiney *****.

2009-11-01, 10:04 PM #37
And Tibby, yes it does. This isn't like the lotter where you have to get 6 numbers right in a row. With that kind of system the chance of winning is based on the number of possible combinations, not the number of entries. In this case, the odds of winning are based on the number of entries.

For example. If you're in a foot race against 2 other people, not factoring in skill, you have a 1 in 3 chance of winning. But if there's 100 people, then your chances are 1 in 100.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

2009-11-01, 10:05 PM #38
I know how the odds work, What i'm saying is that it doesn't matter whether people enter for themselves or Vin, the odds are still the same.
(Except for Vin, who has inflated odds.)
