Any of you freedom-lovers have your rifle close at hand when Uncle Sam comes a knockin'. Call me a conspiracy theorist, a freedom fighter, or whatever. I really don't care -- but I'm not about to sit down and let this one fly. Heres and email I recieved today:
-------------------------------------------
I just checked on this and every word is accurate. I even read the bill that is on the floor. Then went to Snopes and looked it up there also.
It is all true!!!!

Now 'all Guns' must be listed

on your next (2010) tax return!

As if we didn’t have enough to get upset about!
If you have a gun, I hope it isn't registered!

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It will require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.

This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24, 2009, by the Omama staff. BUT . . this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law becomes effective ! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act o f 1986. This means that the Finance Committee has passed this without the Senate voting on it at all. Trust Obama ? ...... you must be kidding !

The full text of the IRS amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage,U.S. Senate You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099.
You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know.|

Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - U.S.... OpenCongress

Obama's Congress is now starting on the firearms confiscation bill. If it passes, gun owners will become criminals if you don't fully comply.

It has begun . . . Whatever Obama's secret Master Plan is....this is just the 'tip of the iceburg!'

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Ac t of 2009.

Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because the government is trying to fly it under the radar as a 'minor' IRS revision, and, as usuual, the 'political' lawmakers did not read this bill before signing and approving it !

To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

-It is registered -You are fingerprinted -You supply a current Driver's License -You supply your Social Security # -You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing -Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail. -There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18. -They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many opt ions to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family pas s this along.

This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.

This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not..

Please.. copy and send this out to EVERYONE in the USA , whether you support the Right to Bear Arms or are for gun control. We all should have the right to choose.

Here's the clarification. You got duped into believing a crazy right wing chain mail, reposted it here without doing any additional research, and now look like an idiot.

I haven't heard hear any of this from the NRA newsletters, and they're pretty on the ball.

Actually fishstickz.., it was a real proposal; I just received the information late. I kind of pity you though if you don't support the 2nd amendment.

I was under the impression that you need a license for a legal gun in the states anyway. :P
nope.

It depends on where you live. Most places, you don't need a license for a rifle or a shotgun, but you do for a handgun (even non-concealed). Some urban areas, such as NYC, require licenses for all guns.

This is for NYS, laws might be different for other states.

Also I think if you've been convicted of a felony there are stricter rules that apply to you as well.

Also, any email that claims to be "verified by snopes" immediately makes me suspicious.
2009-11-05, 12:51 PM #16
Yeah I can understand that, but the author also listed a few legitimate website as the source for information about the bill(s). And in Minnesota, where I live you don't need a license to own a firearm -- maybe a handgun but I'm not sure.

According to here, you don't need a license for rifles and shotguns in Minnesota, but you do for handguns.
2009-11-05, 1:24 PM #18
In WA, you don't need a license for any guns, you just need a license to carry a handgun concealed. Once you have your license to carry, you can buy any number of guns you want w/out having to buy a license for each one. Of course, they still do the background check if you buy it at a gun shop.
2009-11-05, 1:29 PM #19
So you pay a tax on guns and there's better regulations on how guns have to be stored? I don't see what the problem is.

In fact, this bill doesn't go far enough, they need to have a yearly tax on owning any sort of SUV, Jeep, Hummer etc. It would be great revenue. Call it the Douche Bag tax.

I don't see what your getting at with the SUV statement. People who drive those cars a "douchebags" or the government is a "douchebag" for imposing ridiculous taxes and you were just making another example of such?

You've obviously never lived in a remote northern high elevation town that has winter conditions 5-6 months out of the year, where owning at least one four wheel drive vehicle is mandatory.

What?

Lol, btw, "Better Regulations"? As if the amount of tax dollars collected has any correlation to the quality of regulations? Assuming regulations even do any good to begin with? Where the hell are you from?

Nope! :D There's generally age restrictions (16 to purchase rifles/shotguns, 21 for handguns) but most places require only a background check, and even then not for private sales. Of course SOME places are far more restrictive.

Or are a musician who needs an suv to transport your instrument from gig to gig. Or a contractor, masonary, courier, lawnservice etc.

point is that statement is full of fail. The modern transportation world cannot properly function by driving a bunch of honda civics. Sorry.

from www.senate.gov

Quote:
Is it true that . . . Senate Bill SB-2099 will require owners of firearms to pay a $50 charge per gun and list each gun on their federal tax form?

The answer is no. This Internet rumor states that SB-2099 is legislation currently being considered by the Senate. The bill supposedly requires owners of firearms to list on their 1040 tax return all guns they own and then pay a $50 charge per firearm. There is no such legislation by this name in the 111th Congress.

The facts:

* The last bill given the number S. 2099 was in the 105th Congress. This bill dealt with federal sentencing guidelines for counterfeiting offenses.
* Legislation that the Senate is currently working on will be listed on the Active Legislation page or can be searched for on Thomas. For more information about the legislative process or finding bills, please see the Legislation VRD page.

Except contractor! No van is going through most construction sites around here! But other than that, yeah, a van could probably do well enough under normal conditions.

Edit: How is a truck much different from an SUV? In theory, an SUV is just a truck with seating or enclosed cargo (or both) instead of an external bed.

Most vans are lighter and get better mileage than 4x4s, plus they tend to be bare essentials compared to the mountain of crap you get in a 4x4.

And every single contractor or trade worker I know owns a van. :P
