Yay Wisdom Teeth

Just curious as to how many of you have had Wisdom Teeth removed and why etc. I'm thinking I better make a dentist appointment - All 4 of my wisdom teeth have come in fine, only problem is that the bottom ones have started to shift some of my other teeth, which were perfectly straight before. :(

So yeah, yay for my only dental problem ever apart from when I managed to crack a baby tooth when I was 3.
nope.

I think I got my wisdom teeth removed around age 17. I was mad because it went extremely smoothly and I did not get the painkillers all my friends got. I didn't swell up at all, have any pain, or get to miss any school.

Took mine out at 19, they were coming in sideways. Was on Vicodin and couldn't work (delivery driver) for a couple weeks.

I got mine out around 17 or 18, was put under for the entire operation. No problems with pain post-op here either. I can kind of still feel the holes with my tongue, but they've sealed up pretty nicely.

Bring a CD Player to listen to for the operation, even if they put you under all the way.

I still have mine, all three of them. My dentist seems to think they're fine as they are, so no need fore surgery. At least not yet.

I got mine out when I was around 16 or 17. They were impacted, but my dentist just gave me some laughing gas and yanked them out. I can still feel the holes there and the other day I accidentally stabbed it with a chocolate chip or something. Honestly, that chocolate chip thing sucked more than getting them out.

Can still feel the holes, wtf? Sounds like your surgeon did a shotty job.

I had mine removed when I was 14/15 I think. They hadn't popped yet, but they were "going" to screw up 5 years of dental/orthodontist work.

Mine have needed to come out for about a year now, but I have to wait until 2010 for my dental coverage to cover the operation.

But yeah, I got mine removed when I was around 16. Went to the same surgeon my brother and sister went to, and he did a fantastic job.

i'm 25 and mine still havent come through. But Xrays from 2 years ago show that the 2 bottom wisdom teeth are growing into the back of my head.... which is not a good thing.

I have no dentist. meh

I had all four removed when I was 17. They were coming in at a terrible angle, so they had to cut down into my gums and tear them out. Fun times.

I have no idea how mine are.

I mean, they're there. But they're not actually doing anything.

Probably.

The problem was he wasn't really a surgeon. >_> He made an incision and managed to pull the teeth out with some plyers. He did stitch it all up though, but it also offset a ton of problems with my jaw. Honestly, it was a pretty miserable experience. The guy's a good dentist...just not with me. Blarg.

Had my first molars removed when I was 15 in preparation for braces and I guess my wisdom teeth just sensed the space and popped out quite smoothly. :D
2009-11-06, 10:54 AM #18
if they're crooked? take 'em out
If they're not, they're still gonna hurt, leave them in...

problem sort (I was on the second bandwagon)
2009-11-06, 11:39 AM #19
They're neither sore nor crooked, they're just shifting my bottom teeth. :P
nope.
2009-11-06, 11:43 AM #20
They didn't fit into my head so they took them out when I was 18. It was during winter break so I didn't miss school. My dad took away all my painkillers and just gave me Advil.

Two of mine came in fine, the other never budged. And I'm old.

Obviously you don't have enough Wisdom and shouldn't be a teacher. :P
nope.

Haha, when they took mine out, they had to drill down into the tooth and then snap it into two pieces for each on in order to get them out... thank goodness I was knocked out.
2009-11-07, 7:49 AM #24
Never had them, never will. So I'm told.

Pfft, you got it backwards - I am wiser than most because I still have all mine. Of course, if I was so wise, I wouldn't have wanted to become a teacher I guess...

Mine were all taken out at once. At least two were coming in aimed forwards. It wasn't too terrible to have them out.

I had mine taken out one at a time. Since I'm allergic to milk, they came in weaker than the rest of my teeth and got cavity riddled in no time flat. So, I got them pulled. My last one was last year. Getting them pulled isn't bad, its when they have to cut them out is when it sucks.

I'll be 28 in 13 days and I still have 28 (visible) teeth. I haven't been to a dentist in epic ages. :(

I had mine out when I was 18 I think. Same time as my sister actually. She had all sorts of problems with dry socket (I think it was dry socket) and pain. Mine were fine, I was going down into a 3-point stance and trying to drive block my dad in the parking lot after the surgery. I don't remember this but that's what I was told I did.
2009-11-07, 5:12 PM #31
Had mine yanked last year.

It sucked.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Oh wow haha. Bad choice of words.
2009-11-09, 5:22 PM #34
All four at the same time. They were growing in facing a bit forward and would have compacted. I think two weren't as bad, but for whatever reason all wound up out.

I had mine out around 17 & it was a miserable experience. I hate being on strong pain medication, so I was in excruciating pain for about two weeks (I think my surgeon did something wrong...?).
2009-11-09, 6:02 PM #36
I had a total of 11 teeth removed when I was younger to allow room for my wisdom teeth to come in. Seven in one sitting, four in the next. They still hurt like a ***** for about a week when they came in, but no problems here (that I know of).
TAKES HINTS JUST FINE, STILL DOESN'T CARE

The pain wasn't that bad, only used the pain meds a once. It worked. Didn't feel whacked out at all or anything, just made the pain in the gums go away where Asperin hadn't.

The worst was waking up with the taste of blood in my mouth for at least a month. Anyone else have that?

Mine are 'compacted' and have never broken the surface of my gums. The x-ray of my teeth are interesting because the wisdom teeth are at a perfect 90 degree angle to the rest of my teeth. I've seen a number of dentist and none of them have recommended pulling them.
2009-11-09, 8:40 PM #39
I had the unfortunate experience of having an extra wisdom tooth. Four came in relatively painlessly... but a sneaky fifth was coming in BENEATH one of the others. Had all 5 removed at the same time. I was semi-conscious through the entire thing. I didn't feel anything other than some tugs and pressure, but I remember hearing the guy talking to me, detailing exactly what he was doing. That was the day after I started my first job, and two days before my prom.

all four in one sitting.

i ended up getting an infection. it was a miserable month of pain.
