Steam Sale (New Items 11/30!)
2009-11-25, 5:49 PM #1
Steam has a bunch of games and game packs on sale for incredible prices right now:

http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday

It's a 5 day sale with different things coming on sale at different times.

The Lucas Arts Premier Pack (every Lucas Arts game on steam) is only 49.99, valued at 127.84 if you were to purchase every game individually!
2009-11-25, 10:49 PM #2
That's frustrating, honestly. I just bought almost half of that Lucasarts pack, half of the THQ pack, and now I want to get Dragon Age and Farcry 2. I just bought torchlight 2 hours ago, too.

Steam has that many specials it's usually unwise to purchase games until they're discounted.
I've also found the first special in regards to a game is usually fairly dismal compared to further specials.

Awesome, I've been waiting to get Batman since it came out.

Also grabbing GRID, based one the reviews I saw.

I heard Grid was pretty good. Does it use real cars or just cars the devs made up?

Seeing that it is a game, the cars are all virtual.

the steam page said licensed cars.

I grabbed it because the trailer was pretty, and burnout paradise is out of content.

Sold!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Grid doesn't support my sidewinder precision 2 joystick.

Anyone know of a way I could make it appear to be a different joystick? I'd rather not remap to keyboard keys, as I want to keep the axis working correctly.

I plugged in my gamepad and then my joystick started working.

This game is hard. Definitely nothing like burnout paradise.

Question for yall, help me make this decision.
Both Far Cry 2 and Republic Commando are 9.99.
I liked the first Far Cry, to a certain degree at least. i've always kinda wanted RC.
So let me ask yall, which one of those is more worth 9.99?

I don't get it, it's "5 days of one day sales" but it's been the same for two days?
Also both are worth 9.99.

I haven't played RC2, but I will say that FC2 isn't really too much like FC. I know some people here aren't too keen on it, but I played the SP campaign for 50 hours and really enjoyed it. If you're into sneaking around and soaking in the scenery, you should enjoy it.

I do like sneaking around and soaking in the scenery. Thanks.

Yes, both Far Cry 2 and Republic Commando are worth at least 10 bucks.
2009-11-27, 12:17 AM #16
Apparently Dragon Age: origins will be about $37 before tax @ best buy.

Also, Far Cry 2 will be 4.99 before tax at best buy.

Just FYI.

Round 2: KotOR for $2.49, Left 4 Dead 2 for #37.49, and Dead Space for $14.99.

L4D2 is $28 each in the 4pack now also. That'd be cool if I wanted the game, I guess.

Just wanted to update that we ran through some of games with variable results:

Saints Row 2, Full Spectrum Warrior and its expansion are essentially unplayable for multiple reasons. FSW plainly does not run for me, while my friend has horrid lag. The "solutions" provided by the community run through the usual gamut of the lame:"update your stuff" to the frustrating: you have play it offline. Long story short, not worth the effort. As these are console ports, I can only assume that's the reason for the generally unpleasant time.

Titan's quest works, although I had to disable Hardware acceleration on my soundcard for the game not to crash frequently.

We'll play Dawn of War I and II later, expecting it to have less technical issues. I already owned company of heroes which worked flawlessly without steam, I can only hope that steam will not have caused any issues otherwise.

Does guerilla work on high spec systems yet? It must be horridly programed because My i5 seems to running ahead of itself, the game runs in hyperspeed.

It's both my friend and I, and peeking around the net, it isn't uncommon for bugs to hamper the experience. I know it's hit or miss, and obviously the games work for some people, but I'm just saying for the buyer to beware.

Steam version doesn't have any of the Fallout 3 DLC. Don't recommend purchasing it there.

I bought Plants Vs. Zombies earlier this week from this for 5$! That game is sweet.

I was really debating the whole Lucasarts pack, but I ended up just getting the Jedi Knight Pack, which was all I really wanted out of the LA pack.
2009-11-28, 10:15 AM #33
Yeah I went a little hog wild yesterday/today, picking up Arkham Asylum, KOTOR, Left 4 Dead 2, Serious Sam HD, and then Borderlands today...been a while since I had a few of the games people are playing and are popular...

Hey so I really want Borderlands, and I like SP games, but everyone says the game really shines in Co-op, so if I buy it will Massassians play it with me when I get sick of SP <_<

I'll give it a shot sometime. Most of my friends have been playing for awhile, so I'd probably be pretty far behind. Not sure how the co-op system works as far as level differences.

I just picked up Ghostbusters and L4D. $17 for both games is pretty damned good. :)

Borderlands is essentially Diablo with Guns, but in first person.

So whoever is hosting the game, you do their quests. If they happen to be quests you need, you still get credit.

Single Player Characters can be used for Multiplayer and vice versa. You quest list is the same either way.

This is genius marketing by Valve. Granted, I don't want anything that they're offering today, but I can't remember the last time I checked Steam every day with intent to potentially purchase something.
