Thanksgiving in the US is distinctly American. A different holiday by the same name on a different day in a different country does not diminish that fact.

Semantics. You would be correct if you mean to say "designated as federal holidays". Easter would of course be the biggest national exception and it is pretty hard to argue that that isn't celebrated nationally.

National holidays are determined by whether or not it has a whole isle of related stuff at Wal-Mart. :D
