This whole argument is silly. Who cares if your AV catches 40% or 50% of new viruses? Either way you're screwed.

There are also more things to consider other than just detection % -- like, how much does it slow down your system? How configurable is it? Does it have any self-defense against new viruses that try to disable the AV? Etc. Etc. Etc.
