Tibby I don't think that analogy works. It's silly to think that schematics for a commercial droid just happen to by lying around.

The good parts of the prequels were worked into the EU long before the prequels were actually made. For example, the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan was mostly there. The EU did the rest of it much better than Lucas ever could have.

It's easy enough to believe that the protocol droid was the easiest he'd be able to get skin plating for (scrapped droids, jawas, etc) so he just built to that form factor. The internals could've been different.

Which would agree with the fact that his personality was indeed different from other droids of his kind.

What about Jar Jar do you enjoy, Mentat? The reason I don't like him is that as a comic relief character his humor (mostly through clumsy action) is very forced down upon us to the point that it's not funny. Meanwhile, I like the humor between R2D2 and C3PO in the original trilogy (did not like the C3PO humor in Episode II) more because it's more subtle ("I suggest a new strategy R2. Let the wookie win").

I never hated Jar Jar as much as some people seem to.

I do like the prequel trilogy, but I think the original trilogy is better.

I thought C3P0's lines in Episode 2 were pretty funny..

Like, "This is such a drag". XD I cracked up pretty hard when I first saw it.

Jar Jar is the maximum I'll allow (as he was quite funny the first time I watched it, though I was pretty young), but the rest (new droids in episode 3, stupid comedy bits added to Ep4, etc) are going too far...

You're arguing logic about a film series that essentially involves people with magic powers and spaceships that can travel faster than light speed. :P
nope.

I've never really thought about it much but I suppose that I like the way he looks, his mannerisms, his accent, the way in which he speaks & ultimately his innocence. He's definitely not my favorite character in the prequels but I do enjoy him.

I still don't get how anakin "built" c3po. I mean wtf? He's the same standard-issue protocol droid that we see all over the place (even in the original trilogy). How could some kid build an exact copy of a manufactured droid, and more importantly, why?

I heard that Newegg has great deals on barebones protocol droids.

He did exactly what I did.
Found a used Win2k serial number (Actually I have ten, anyone want one?) and used in for the droid.
3P0 runs an out of date operating system.
