Then your ISP sucks, or at least sucks for your region.

As crappy as Comcast is in their other practices, I've never had an issue with getting significantly less bandwidth than the plan's "maximum". I've had I think 3 different tiers of bandwidth in the time I've used them, and at all 3 levels I've always gotten almost exactly what is advertised, sometimes more. My 50/10 service right now really is pretty much 48-52 down and 9-12 up all the time.

Eh, my bandwidth in college was better, but this is plenty fast for me so I don't really care that much. Being able to do stuff like download Dragon Age on Steam in less than an hour is nice.

I pay for 10 and generally get between 8-10. The ISP I use says I must be within 80% or they'll come out and fix it. Lately, however, the network is completely saturated in the evenings which drops my speeds down to a few hundred k, if that  They promise it will be fixed this week but it's been going on for more than a month so I'm pissed.

hmmm just moved to FL from ME. Comcast is faster than RR, but not as reliable. We need to reset the internet every other day or so.. don't even get me started on how crappy the TV is.

It's not as bad as it was, but that was probably because of our pathetic router.

Plus, this is ADSL on ageing, decrepit BT lines in the middle of nowhere.

My ping's pretty high, but playable, assuming I restrict myself to UK servers. Makes games like Left 4 Dead pretty rough, though.

Re: comcast -- they have that "speedboost" thing or whatever that makes the first few seconds really fast then they throttle you after that. Your average may be skewed because of it.

Roadrunner does the same thing.

Actually didn't speedboost too high this morning. My normal speed is 7mbit down, and I have seen speedboost make it go up to 22mbit.

Fast and EXPENSIVE. That speed, if you get it by itself, is $145/month.
2010-01-22, 8:19 AM #33
72mb down is worth $145/mo. Considering 7mb down typically runs $30-$40 ish where I live.

Call tech support... there are tons of things that can go wrong. At least here, with Wave Broadband, they take me seriously when I report speed issues.
