I could probably extend the time given, but seriously, 5 minutes is plenty long as is, after thread creation. Otherwise all you monkeys would add polls to everything.

I can't let it do the poll and thread creation at the same time though.

If I bring up the topic about Dictatorship its like bloody chum for hungry sharks(Massassi Elites) in the Ocean (Discussion Forum) I get outnumbered when it comes to politics. Then I'll really have to swear and curse in German. :hist101:

I just wish the more mundane words weren't censored.
Like for instant, b to the itch. That's not even considered a swear word when used to mean complain, or to say that something is awesome (not that it gets used like that anymore).
Also, b to the astard, is my favorite 'swear word' because you can say that in any company and not offend, even when surrounded by die hard christians (and yes, I speak from experience).
But these words, accepted everywhere else (yes, I speak for the universe) are censored in massassi.

I use b to the itchin' all the time. Maybe I'm just out of style.

Even my own mother doesn't think b... itch is a swear word, when used as a verb. And my mom is not a big fan of colorful language.

Yeah, it'd be hard to censor it as a noun but not as a verb though, so I guess I can understand why it's censored. It annoys me though, the verb is so useful, especially in these forums ;p

Hell, I'm verbing right now

***** as a noun isn't really terribly harsh either.

2010-02-20, 2:18 AM #66
That's true, but I've decided that for as long as the censor is in place I'll refer to it as verbing ;)

The chat has swearing now? That sucks.

I like the censor, always have. It's nice to have somewhere on the internet where there isn't swearing.

I obviously don't care about it, but I would prefer no swearing to swearing here. On some of my private torrent tracker forums they have an incredibly strict no-swearing rule on their "debate" forums, and it works out very very well for the most part.

As much as I ****ing like to curse, I must admit that there are definitely some fundies out there that consider all of these words to be curse words. Kids at my parents church used to get dragged to the back & beaten if they said "crap" or "dang" (I know because I was back there getting beaten while watching them being beaten). All it takes is one Amish or strict Pentecostal kid to ruin it for everyone. Besides, I sort of like to guess what the *'s actually mean.

Sounds almost like the LDS church when I was formally a member in my youth. I liberated myself from that organization 20 years ago.

I'm a Baptist and haven't experienced anything like that.

I really don't care if the swear filter is removed, since many words that are censored aren't always considered swearing. It's usually easy to tell what's in place of asterisks anyways.

How did the swear filter get down?

Hey me too. Except more like 8 or 9 years ago.
2010-02-20, 1:56 PM #79
Oh, and anyway:

Massassi is not a free country. It is not a democracy. You do not have any rights. CM is paying for and running the site, and he's the boss. If you have a problem, you can always go start your own Massassi.
2010-02-20, 2:01 PM #80
I used to think that Massassi had a special (but not purely) refined atmosphere (partially) due to the swear filter. Always kept the really lowbrow Internet mudslinging away and it was rather easy to pinpoint the trolls when they took all the "effort" to get past them. But of course times have changed and the #massassi I actually came to visit for fun ceased to exist in late 2005, when it became just another routine for me. Huh.
