jk2, JO, JKA and JA

What's the rationale for saying JA and JO vs. JKA and jk2.

Someone asked me this. I have no idea why people think one way or the other.
2010-03-02, 1:49 PM #2
What's JK?
2010-03-02, 1:57 PM #3
A. JA and JO are proper, as the game names are Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, not Jedi Knight Academy or Jedi Knight 2.
B. JKA was the abbreviation of Jedi Knight Arena, a mod, so there is additional confusion there.
C. It's always been called JA/JO on Massassi, and I like to think we're the authoritative source on the games :P

JK = Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2
JA = Jedi Acedemy
JO = Jedi Outcast
DF = Dark Forces I (JK1)

I like to think of JA as it's own game anyway, as part of the JK series it's the lowest point, but on it's own it's a perfectly fun game.
Like CNC Generals.

Except Dark Forces wasn't Jedi Anything.

JO is the worst for me, way too much tedious crap I'd rather have not been doing.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I will say saber combat (with saberrealisticcombat on) was rather fun, and a gigantic improvement over JK's sabering.

You mean you didn't enjoy wildly flailing with the Z-swing on BGJ nf? Blasphemy.

Nobody should care about this anymore

I agree with this guy.
2010-03-02, 6:16 PM #14
We should use this thread to talk about a new game instead.
2010-03-02, 6:24 PM #15
I agree with Thrawn that arguing over the distinctions between acronyms for these games isn't serious, but if there's one thing worse than people who on their own time choose to direct mental energy toward JK, it's those of us who feel compelled to suggest that people 'get over it' or 'move on' for some reason... Why?

JO's combat was fun. And if you know the ins-and-outs of how to use the guns, the MP was as compelling as JK's.

I will say that I hope whomever worked at Ravensoft's level designing division at the time of JO's creation were dragged out and lobotomized.

I think he was "wat"ing at your labeling of Dark Forces as Jedi Knight 1.

I will too.

At map-craft everyone says JKA when talking about JA\jk3 whatever you call it.

I don't see any overly persuasive arguments here one way or the other.
2010-03-02, 8:23 PM #22
i think the most persuasive argument is that its not called Jedi Knight Academy. at all. ever. its title is Jedi Outcast 2: Jedi Academy.

second most is that a popular JK mod here at massassi was called Jedi Knight: Arena, abbreviated JKA.

both of these things add up to JKA not even remotely being an appropriate abbreviation for Jedi Academy, or JA.

Is it called Jedi Knight: Academy?
No?
I rest my case.

Dark Forces wasn't JK1. JK was Dark Forces 2.

Dark Forces
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

I can see calling Jedi Outcast JK2...

To me it's DF, JK, (MotS), JO/JK2, JA.

I don't see what's so hard about that.

I wasn't aware we were trying to persuade you. It's JA, period. It's not called Jedi Knight Academy.

The other day, my wife and I played Worms (2007) on XBLA. We played best of 7 - I won, 4-3. The last one was close. I had one worm left, and his health was at 13.

More importantly, I noticed a newer version (2009) was released. Is it any good? Is it worth paying the 400 points?
2010-03-03, 8:20 AM #31
Worms 2? Absolutely. It has like twice the guns, tons of new levels, more voices, etc.
2010-03-03, 8:22 AM #32
I think I've got a few hundred extra points. I'll probably download it tonight.

I only played Worms online one time (against CoolMatty, actually). Is that any good?
2010-03-03, 8:23 AM #33
DF --> JK --> MotS --> JO --> JA

or

DF --> JKDF2 --> JKMOTS --> JK2JO --> JKJA (you could add colons if you want)

Those are your only 2 options (3 if you consider colons an option). Anything less is uncivilized. The first option is generally used by people that have played the series since the beginning. We're really the only ones that know what we're talking about. It doesn't really matter what you call JO & JA because they pretty much blow anyways (except for single-player).
? :)

Mostly because no one really cares about the game or its abbreviation anymore. You should however align with this site as it was the first and strongest Jedi Knight series community since the 90s. Agreeing with CM, I would say whatever is said here is biblical to the series.

Hell correct me if I am wrong but hasn't this website/community even received a nod from Lucas arts? I seem to recall something like that years ago.

JA, JKA, who cares? both are easy to understand.

Dark Forces.
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2
Dark Forces 3: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.
Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Outcast 2: Jedi Academy.
