I looked over vBulletin again and it looks like they have an importer for this old UBB. So I could buy it, upgrade us to vb2.x, then upgrade that to 3.x... what do you think? They don't have an importer for 3.x, only for 2.x.

I don't care about looks, but these forums look cool, and they run very very fast for everyone, so if the upgrade is all perty and full of graphical upgrades chances are it's going to slow us down >.<

What?! How can you call these forums slow?

There is like nothing to load. No graphics, no avatars, no extra bells and whistles, these forums are the fastest forums I've used. That's half the reason I don't post on many other forums, they are to damn slow. I don't feel like waiting to log in and post and wait for all the pretty stuff to load.

CAD forums are faster, various other forums I frequent have been a whole crapload faster. But I don't care about speed, I care about quality.

Though I do say we need an upgrade. I want to be able to PM people.

I thought someone was working on making massassi forums already? Whatever, I'd like an upgrade.

If you don't want to see things like avatars, I'm pretty sure you can switch to something like "simple mode", which turns images off. I think all of the new forums have them. Personally, I wouldn't mind avatars at all, as long as they aren't too big. 80x80 or something like that.

New forums, no crap. And I believe the main slowness is with doing anything admin-wise.

I'd be happy with new forums if they were vBulletin. That's my favorite forum system, heh. I have no sentimental feelings about the old InfoPop system, but I do enjoy the lack of avatars and sig-pics. It makes Massassi's forums look so much nicer to have it all colour co-ordinated. Hmm.. I say go for it, as long as we turn off all the flashy stuff. I like these forums visually because there aren't avatars, sig images, big flashy buttons and bars... It's all nice and plain. I like that. I'm a plain man.

As I said, I'm pretty sure each user has an option to turn the flashy stuff off. It's something like "simple mode". That way, people who do want things like avatars, will see them, and people who don't, won't see them.

BTW: their importer worked most of the way, but it died on a post so I'm going to have to wait for a response from their support.
