  • Add modern social networking functionality to this website.
  • Grant me permission to use the resources on this website to redistribute.
  • Give me access to the website to add the modern social networking functionalities (if you can't do so yourself.)

1. Not going to happen. Added bloat which goes completely against Massassi's core as a community forum, and would do nothing to drive traffic.
2. Most of the content on this site isn't really mine to redistribute. It's owned by the people who submitted it, and although I'm sure many wouldn't mind if I passed it around some more, I don't plan on making that assumption for them.
3. Even if I wanted to do this, and wasn't capable myself, allowing you access to this site's files would be the last thing I'd ever do. I have no idea as to your skills, no idea as to your trustworthiness (and since you were previously banned, that's doubly so), and I would trust many other people here whom I've known for far longer to handle it.

All of which are completely understandable and acceptable answers. Thank you for addressing the core issues.

Proving my trust and skills is something that I can do over time, I hope for us to hopefully work together in the future. I will try my best to instill the highest quality image possible for the existing communities for JK, and make sure that no one get's shut out during this new movement.

People already have ways of becoming interested in creating **** for video games: GameBryo, Unreal, CryEngine, Source... there are many games and game engines that can be modified, and are even shipped with tools to do it. All of these games are based on modern approaches to game development, content management and allow far greater creativity with far greater ease.

By advocating JK as an ideal introduction to game development you are misrepresenting JK, overstating your own knowledge on the subject and injuring anybody who listens to you.

Yeah, if you were pursing a career in game development, I don't think making maps for a 13 year old game is going to get you anywhere.

You.

Are.

Delusional.

For that matter, I think you are SF_Gold. You two definitely have the same style of ignoring what everyone is saying and carrying on about some outrageous idea that will FAIL or never, ever come to pass.

Do you not understand, the JK editing community has come - and gone. There is no revival except the one in your imagination. You are 10 years too late!

Sorry to be so harsh, but dang, you're being quite thick.

Funny. I can boot up Steam and WHAT DO YOU KNOW! Source SDKs, Toolkits, Garrys Mod, etc. Hey what do you know, free UDK for Unreal Engine? Must be that I'm a millionaire that is in it with the big game developers. Only I have access to those toolkits and SDKs. SUCKS FOR YOU GUYS!

Not only that, but the "Make Something Unreal" contest is such an amazing way to reach out. Red Orchestra is fantastic.
Valve also hires modders based on how well they use their free tools all the time, CS, DOD, other things I'm forgetting...

Also see: Portal. OK, Narbacular Drop wasn't a mod per se, but Valve hired the dev team nevertheless.

The man who made this mod was hired by Valve outright.

Hey, I'm back after 7 years and you are all still nerds.

Is there anyway to get JK to work in windows 7? I tried that tutorial pinned at the top of the forum and it didn't work.

Go post your exact problem in the sticky thread and we'll help you out.

Well, I get irritated by the attitude some people come back at stuff like this or other things relating to these old games this site is based on. I must say, though, after having checked out the two sites related to the game on Facebook I can't support this. The site linked to from the one mentioned here contains numerous offensive screenshots or captions to them. I can't see this new group with a mentality stated here of trying to generate interest in people editing JK being worthwhile. As many have stated here, there is no benefit to editing JK over a newer game and, in fact, the opposite seems true. Editing JK seems counterintuitive to learning more modern editing. I could support a more mainstream idea of trying to get people to play the original games, however, but considering all the difficulties people seem to have running it on modern OSs I'm not sure I get the point. I'm happy that I can run it and since I don't get rid of old computers I probably will be able to for a long time to come. JK and MotS are the type of games that I reinstall every few years to enjoy again and again.

You know what I could support? A push to get Dark Forces released on XBox Live like Duke Nukem 3D was. That game with modern gamepad support would be awesome. It would be slightly more difficult since that was never a MP game, though. Doubt this would ever come to pass but I can dream. Duke Nukem 3D is great fun on the 360. While they're at it, Outlaws 360?

X-Wing Alliance on GOG/Steam with full Win7/64 bit support, along with a new MP lobby would pretty much be godlike.

Not that that wouldn't like that (although I don't think I'll be using any of those services) but I tend to set my sights on more realistic goals. Every once in awhile I check the status of the XWA Upgrade, though. Are there problems running XWA under Win 7?

Yes, although it's more a problem with modern graphic cards.
The cockpit disappears for me on hardware mode, and a large portion at the center of the screen near the crosshair is black.

Have you looked around the various XWA forums? There was a fix for XWA that was similar to JK's fix. In fact, when we set out to fix JK, we used it as a resource.

No it isn't. JK is under-engineered, complex, buggy and does none of the work for you. The same goes for JK's tools (sorry Alexei.) JK is so far removed from the way any other engine works that it's a complete waste of time trying to jump its many hurdles and barriers to entry.

There are basically two camps of people that still edit JK:

1. Those who think it's somehow a good engine or a good platform for learning (:downswords:),
2. those who do it for nostalgia and for the hell of it.
