I thought the first one was excellent. Surprisingly excellent. Maybe it appealed to me in particular because I'm a Monkey Island fan and generally like pirates.

The sequels were over-the-top fantasy fluff that happened to have some pirates. They had some good bits but mostly seemed like they tried way too hard.

On Stranger Tides, by the way, is the novel Ron Gilbert was reading when he came up with Monkey Island. It has some good potential, though I'm not sure how I feel about the insertion of Jack Sparrow into the story. There are some Dragonball Z-esque bits that grated on me, though.

I thought the first one was great. I've been on the ride, so I enjoyed all the little homages. But even without that, it was a very good pirate movie, and a lot of fun to watch.

The part/character I liked most about the sequels was the voodoo lady, though they kind of ruined her in the third one. The third one had some good "Geoffery Rush makes a good pirate" moments, and ties up the plot of the second, but both did get a little too deep into fantasy. Sure, undead pirates are pretty supernatural, but what are the odds there would also be fish people? I still enjoyed the movies, but they lacked something the first one had.

guess that rules out Lt. BigTits from Stargate Universe then, ey chaps?

The Foundain is of course a perfect opening for an ENDLESS number of stories featuring JACK SPARROW.
