Star Wars on Blu-ray confirmed

Quote:
"We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures."

When will the set come out? Sansweet says, "We're not ready to announce exactly when it's coming out, but it won't be in the too distant future."

Yes, I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I just hope some of those weird issues from the DVDs will be fixed like the green boxes around the TIE Fighters and the white lightsaber Luke has in A New Hope.

Speaking of which, I wonder if any more edits will be made to the movies.....

To help solidify Greedo as a villain and Han Solo as the non-bad-ass, A New Hope will be edited such that it was Greedo that killed Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, further justifying Han shooting him.

Greedo was Space Hitler.

Han will kiss Greedo, which prompts Greedo to shoot and miss, and then walrus man shoots Greedo with his only working arm. Han is innocent in the whole affair.

Waaaaaaaaah. George Lucas edited the Star Wars movies.

Get over it. Or don't watch them.

EDIT: hahahahaha mzzt. That would be the ultimate version of the scene, though it lacks in the exposition department. Then again, all of that same information is covered in the Han/Jabba conversation moments later. Now that is a change worth *****ing about. That thing sucks ass.

They will replace all scenes with Harrison Ford with the alternate footage featuring Adam West cast as Han Solo, and certain script modification to fit his acting style.
2010-04-19, 8:27 PM #8
Screw Adam West. How about Nick Nolte?

So... I get to buy the OT for a 4th time?
.
2010-04-19, 8:44 PM #10
I guess it's a good thing I never got around to buying them after I moved out way back when. :P

I can pretty much guarantee that I'll buy this when it comes out.., but weren't people saying that the original film was trashed so no HD version was possible?
woot!

That version never got past the initial test audience. In fact it's still there...

I don't think I've EVER seen the original pure 1977 Theatrical version of Star Wars. I'd probably be pretty amazed if I did, there's probably a lot of stuff I've seen in the special editions and re-re-re-re-re-releases that I didn't know wasn't original.
2010-04-20, 1:58 AM #23
Eh, there's not a huge amount, but the bits that are have been heavily criticised by hardcore fans.

I'm looking at you, Massassi!

I remember as a young kid watching a new hope when it was just released in the theaters in 1977. (yeah I know I have high mileage)

They took out Yub Nub from the special editions, and forever afterwards that part of my childhood died...

Although it's still on the theatrical DVDs of course...

If you ever saw Star Wars previous to 1997, or a VHS tape produced before then, then you most likely saw a film extremely close to the original 1977 theatrical version. I actually don't know if the 1977 version has ever been released. Does the two disc DVD release with the theatrical version contain the text above the crawl "Episode IV: A New Hope"?

I think it's been mentioned that the most "authentic" release of Star Wars, and highest quality, was the Laserdisc version.

Well, there you go. It appears that if you've seen the theatrical version included in the recent DVDs, you have seen Star Wars as it was meant to be seen before it was seen as it was meant to be seen.

Unless of course, you're a real fan and saw the original release in the theater.

If in 15-20 years entertainment industry such as motion pictures and video games would go into the direct-brain-simulation of feel and touch, imagine the pornography. That might as well come into being. Unless by then everyone forgets about Return of the Jedi, of course.

The original theatrical release has the Jabba scene?

If that's the case, did they cut it out later for the TV and VHS releases?
2010-04-20, 4:00 PM #38
no the jabba scene was never in the theatrical version

it was filmed with the stand in but they never finished it... i've heard multiple reasons why (they had yet to decide on what jabba would look like, they didn't have the money, they didn't have the time)

the only difference between theatrical and the original home video versions was the original home video versions said "Episode IV: A New Hope" at the beginning of the text crawl... the laser disc and the theatrical version from the limited edition DVD set reflect the original theatrical version which has the text crawl as it appears in the above screenshot

If you noticed that wasn't also the only scene they cut out as well, there was also a part where Luke was tending a moisture vaporator and witnessed the attack on the Tantive IV in low orbit above Tattooine.
