Yes I know, when Luke talked to Biggs Darklighter at the last Battle, its in all versions except the original theatrical version.

Yknow I don't think I ever saw the Special Editions besides ROTJ, and I'm younger than the majority of you. :P

It was always the first VHS release and then the DVD sets from a few years back where they added Hayden McGaypants in at the end. And I though that they released the original versions on DVD in the end too?
nope.

Unless anybody who owns the theatrical version can dispute I am sure that the past couple changes mentioned are incorrect. The belief that some of the deleted Tattooine material was ever in any released version is some sort of mass hypnosis and I doubt the Biggs conversation near the end was not in the original release.

Yeah they added the Luke and Biggs scene in the Special Edition. It had been cut out of the theatrical and VHS releases.

The Jabba scene was of course put in the SE too. It's horribly out of place considering most of the dialog was moved to the Greedo scene in the original film and that scene is retained too...

I'm talking about the stuff where Luke was viewing the battle in space and then there's the scene where where he was hanging out with his friends and talked to Biggs. I know the latter was never in any released version and I believe the same applies to the macrobinocular scene. You know, I think the best version of Star Wars ever released, disregarding the novelization, is the Radio Drama. I remember actually listening to it on the radio. My dad recorded them all for me, as well as ESB, and I've since bought the CDs.

the talking to biggs bit that others have referred to is an extended version of what was in the theatrical... as in right before the death star battle

just a few extra lines of dialogue

and nobody said the scene where luke looks up and sees the space battle was ever in a released version... just a deleted scene and i seem to remember seeing that scene i'd have to actually check my dvds to see if it was included in the bonus material or if i saw it from some other source

So is the original theatrical version available on DVD? if it is, I'm chucking my SE DVDs in the trash. (I never watch them because I'm still traumatized by loverboy Hayden)

The context in which Darth Dan posted seemed to me to mean it was cut from one version and seen in another. That sceen and the, I believe, Toshi Station scene are routinely believed to have been in a released version. Growing up I had "seen" them in things such as books and radio dramas and the effect is that you believe you saw them in a movie, which they never were. There was a CDROM - Star Wars Behind the Magic or the supplemental material included with Yoda Stories which was the first time the material was actually released. I'd have to check my CDs to make sure which one it is on. Anyway, I believe they were also shown at some Comic Con or similar prior to that. I also remember reading a Sansweet article on the topic, probably in one of my old Star Wars Insider magazines.

Good God, yes. It was originally released some 30 years ago. I got to listen to it during the initial run as well as ESB but I didn't even know whether or not the did a RotJ until I pick this up. Star Wars in particular is excellent as it expounds greatly in some areas most notably some background between Leia and Vader as well as Alderaan. The set looks pricey now but I consider it a must own. Actually, I looked up my order from seven years ago and it is less now. I purchased the Dark Forces audio drama based on the three [somewhat] graphic novels at the same time. I do not consider that a must own.

Yes, I know, I'm including it in a discussion of deleted tatooine scenes, and no, my username as previously discussed is spelled correct.

My username is spelled the way I spell it. Not like some fictional species in a children's fantasy. As I've asked before, do you run around telling black (or brown, or even yellow) people their names are spelled wrong?

Anywho, so I dug out some old CD Roms and see that the Behind the Magic CD Roms included the "lost" footage that has been reference here. The macrobinocular scene was in such bad shape back then it was silent and b&w. The rest of the Ancorhead/Tosche station stuff was good. That was material that was in the Radio Drama with, I remembered today, some T16 competion. Good stuff.

Correct, I have the Behind the Magic CD-Rom too. Those scenes were never released in any version of the movie. The Jabba scene was never in any version of ANH either. It was always a deleted scene with some guy dressed in fur, until they made the Special Editions. And Wookie, I too thought the conversation with Biggs and Luke was in the original.

The Limited Edition DVD of the original movies are still in stores here, still for full price. I might pick them up if they were on discount.

By the way, I always thought the original 1977 movie simply said 'Star Wars' on top of the opening crawl. Or maybe that is only on my VHS copy, not sure.

One thing that keeps bugging me, is this image I have from a scene that I remember being in TESB... a scene where the Medical Droid removes a bandage from Luke's face and you can see the wound made by the Wampa.

It's always stuck with me, yet it isn't in the Special Editions, so I'm wondering if it's on the Limited Edition DVDs... or maybe I'm just remembering it from the comic book adaptation (Which some kid stole from me in school).

I even still have the original TESB sticker collection book (I have no idea if these things came out in the US too, by the way). Anyway, I looked through it, but that image of Luke with the Medical Droid isn't in there.... yet I see it clearly in my mind.

Does anybody know where it's from?

I swear I remembered that scene from when I was very little, before the special editions came out. I still don't know what the deal is with it.

Somebody posted in this thread that the meeting is expanded so I guess it was in the original albeit abridged. Don't know. Decided to skip the 2 disc versions that came out. 3 VHS versions and 1 DVD version was enough for me. Will probably get some special bluray release with the naive belief it will be the last significant release. Of course I'll want a bluray player by then.

apparently i was mistaken... in the original it shows luke reaching up to touch the underside of the wing on his x-wing as he walks up to it then cuts to the bit where he is climbing up the ladder while some glorified extras ask if he wants a different R2 unit

the added biggs conversation happens in the middle of that but i always seemed to remember a small part of that conversation (the bit where random pilot #12 asks luke if he can handle the x-wing) but it's been a while since i've seen either version and the conversation is one of the added bits that i always felt should never have been cut so it's in my mental "perfect version" of ANH

Yeah, Wook, I wouldn't presume that you spelled it this way on accident, if you claim it was intentional, but to say that it's not the word Wookiee spelled "wrong" is silly.
2010-04-22, 9:54 AM #69
Sure, but my username is a name as opposed to a word. It refers to me and not some fictional species. It would be true to say that my username is derived from the intentional misspelling of Wookiee, however, but I see no need to correct my spelling of Wookiee when I am not referring to Wookiees.

No, but the point is that his name clearly is a reference to the word Wookiee. It would be like if his name was Han_Solu, and tried to say that it is in no way related to the character Han Solo.

Not that it is worth arguing over at all, just giving my two cents. :P
