Here in a real country, people drive white cars a lot. They look good.

Black is pretty much the only color you can do a color change without a full strip. I'm getting a hookup from a friend and I'm still paying over $2000 - lights, moldings, trim, etc are all coming off.

Stripping it down is the pain in the ass. When we stripped my friends Camaro, it took a couple of days.

Of course, we stripped it down bare, even the engine compartment (the engine was already on a hoist).

Yep. He's expecting two weekends' worth of prep work before we can paint (granted, that also includes some minor body work).

This is my favorite so far.

I'd probably go with no wing and similar wheels.

Blackout the headlights, change those ghetto wheels. Tint the hell out of the windows. Nice.

Forget JLee's ugly car, sounds like he's picked orange.
What color should I paint my car?

How can you not like blacked headlights? Ford and GM even started manufacturing them because people were just doing it themselves.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not talking about putting some crappy film, or paints the cover of the light. I'm talking about painting the interior area of the headlight.

edit:

Steven, keep it a nice white! But I always liked those cars in a bright red as well. I mean, its a Vette. Red is practically owned by it.

I'm tied between white, dark metallic gray (anthracite, they call it these days), or red with a white stripe. I'm leaning toward red with the stripe, because it fits my style.

Oohhhh okay nevermind. I thought you meant the cover like the way some idiots have it on their crappy murdered out Mustangs.

No no no! That crap ruins your headlights forever since it eventually melts to it. Example of done right:

Personally I think no matter what color you pick you'll still look like a middle aged married man who is questioning his sexuality and worried about his mortality, BUT if that's your style then I think it fits with that style to have your motorcycle match your corvette. Plus, I have not seen one like that before. It's as cool as I can picture a corvette. This is a backhanded compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.

I think that's horribly wrong. Yeah, when you see a old guy driving a NEW sports car, it makes him look like that. But when you see an older guy driving a vehicle from his time, it gives the impression (to me at least) that that's the car he's wanted all his life, and now he can afford it. So he's absorbing every awesome second of it.

You're right that black gives you the most options for color change, but you're still never gonna get rid of all the black. I can't help but worry that if you do a color change you'll never be happy with it. Are they doing the door jambs? In between all the body cracks? How far under the hood are they going to go? Because SOMEWHERE there will be a seam from your new color to black - and you will have to look at it. Same with to the undebody, base of windshield, etc etc etc. Just think of all the areas they won't be able to reach, there will be a seam there. I know black is high maintenance, but it also looks a million times better than any other color so the maintenance is worth it.

Ok I stop now, it's your car :psylon:

Oh, don't take my personal preference in cars too seriously. I also yell "sweet truck" at pretty much every beat up piece of **** truck made before 1995.
I just think corvettes are one of the lamest cars ever and have a mental association of them with certain other types of things i think are lame. Racing stripes are one of those things, so i figure if i think they are the same kind of lame, then maybe they are actually the same kind of awesome to someone who likes those kinds of things.

I understand your feelings on Corvettes to a certain extent; modern Corvettes are also referred to "Cockettes" and are "lame," as you put it.

However, this car is 42 years old. It is simple and elegant. No fancy computers, no smog stuff, nothing that I can't take apart and fix myself. There is not a single part within the car that I cannot identify by name and function. It's simple, raw, unadulterated power in a fiberglass shell. It will require thousands of my own personal hours to get it back to perfection. I didn't buy a prefab "cool car," I bought the potential for a "cool car." I think there's a significant difference between buying something pre-built, and doing the work by hand. You see a guy in a new fancy car, you think "oh, he bought it that way." You see a guy in an amazing old car, and you know he spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours getting it the way he wants it.

Now now, don't go bashing electronics. :D

I agree though, I miss my 1984 Camaro simply because it was easy to work on. Plenty of room under the hood to move around, parts can be had anywhere. These days your only option is a dealership/factory websites it seems.

Damn, orange looks good on that Chevelle
2010-05-13, 5:30 PM #72
Hmm. Sorry but I like that color even less now. It just screams fast and furious wanna-be HEY LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME over flashy rice box. Your car would be so pimp wish a fresh coat of mirror-gloss black. :colbert:

Came to suggest Orange.

Paint it hypnotoad .
2010-05-13, 6:23 PM #75
I definitely like orange, but I like the "burnt" orange that I posted better.

Bright orange like that looks better on lambos, or maybe an older corvette (Steven :colbert:)
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Eh I don't think so...hell I won't even have a spoiler on it. No spoiler, no body kit, no chrome, no fart can.

Is the Elise I posted earlier screaming "fast and furious wanna-be" also?

JLee, is that your car up there or an example of the color you want? If it is your car, it doesn't look too shabby. I'd have gone yellow like mine below, but whatever works!

2010-05-13, 9:49 PM #78
I don't know about the orange, JLee. I think you should go with something more subtle. It's tough with that orange, though. It looks really good on some cars, but I don't think it would look good on an MR2. I think the gunmetal grey will look much better.

And Steven, you are allowed to choose from these colors for your Vette, if you're trying to restore.

900: Tuxedo Black
972: Can-Am White
974: Monza Red
976: LeMans Blue
980: Riverside Gold
983: Fathom Green
984: Daytona Yellow
986: Cortez Silver
990: Hugger Orange
>>untie shoes
2010-05-13, 11:02 PM #79
I'm not going for a complete restore. I don't plan on entering shows or racing. I just want a nice, classic car to fit my taste.

And I have the plate on the inside of the driver door jamb. The car was, as original, Monza Red with black interior.

This is my car-

I know plenty of colors look good, but I don't want a dull or "traditional" color. I'm tired of boring. I don't want black, white, red or yellow. I like a nice dark blue, but not for this car.
