For real. Nuclear power kicks ass.

I think I'm going to buy a decent amount of stock in BP, somewhere between 100 and 300 shares. I'm also considering buying some shares of Exxon Mobil since it's at a low point, but I can't afford to buy nearly the same amount of it.

Baco- It might be different in the UK, but here you can just sign up on a broker's website or find a website like sharebuilder where you can invest in whatever you want online and it will charge you a fee per trade.

I'm 20 right now, and it will be at least five years until I'm married. If I spend $7,400 and buy 200 shares, their stock would need to rise $6.5 a share during that time period for me to have made more money then I would in interest in the bank. I think it's pretty reasonable that the 4th largest company in the world's stock will recovery to $43.25 within the next five years. Exxon-Mobil just seems like a good investment all around.

Or I could buy 300 shares and it would only need to go up 4 dollars to be a "worthwhile" investment. BP won't go out of business any time soon, and I don't have to worry about Obama taking control of the company cause it's British :XD:

The scary part about buying BP right now is not the oil mess itself, but all of the litigation that is sure to arise. Sure, the oil mess is dropping share prices, but wait until all of the lawsuits and fines are assessed.

Off topic.....if you want to invest for the long term, look into index funds like VFIFX (I currently own a lot of this - look it up). Instead of just one company it's hundreds, and your money will sway with the market average (VFIFX just about perfectly mimics the Dow in percentage points).

You wont get rich overnight, but it pays dividends which you can re-invest and over time, history shows slow n' steady market growth which you will take advantage of if you continue to pay into it every month no matter what the market does. (dollar cost averaging)
