•••••••••••••••
SPOILER FOR BOTH MOVIE AND BOOK
•••••••••••••••

I must say, I am tremendously happy that Jackson decided to use the Undead army more than Tolkien did. I couldn't believe how Tolkien just threw away such a great opportunity when, in the book, Aragorn lets them go after capturing some boats. The way they 'purge' the city of Orcs was a terrific idea.

Insanely. Good. Movie.

Every girl in my class who saw this movie cried at a random part in the movie. One tear rolled down one girls cheek when Aragorn was winning... wtf? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif]

(Love 'er anyways. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] )

So, I suppose SAJN_Master is right when he says

I just read the "Rotten" reviews from Rotten Tomatoes. Only five of like..... 140. They were all saying stuff like... "That stuff about a spider wasn't important, and Peter Jackson made it up." And I'm sitting there thinking, "you havn't read the books, have you..."

I heard they used two stormtrooper death screams in the movie. Anyway, I can't see until Wednesday....
2003-12-21, 7:16 PM #53
No, those "stormtrooper" screams would have been the generic screams that practically ALL foley artists use in ALL movies. I've heard those screams in Batman Returns, RotJ, and countless others.

And who is the Wilhelm?

One of the rotten reviews on rotten tomatoes was saying stuff like the books were racist and sexist.
He was actually claiming that the women were all relegated to small roles. The racist thing was because all the good guys were white and the orcs were green.
I guess he missed the Saruman the White thing.

Is that the same review where the guy said Jackson should've condensed the trilogy into one 2 hour movie? And the one where he complains about how Tolkien was writing to a white-european audience? um... wasnt it Tolkien's intent to write a sort of English mythology? The guy that wrote this review needs to stop whining and die.

Saw it last night, but I couldn't stay awake long enough to post then.

Absolutely awesome, though some of the characters started really irritaing me. Legolas has been getting on my nerves through the whole trilogy. I asked my mum about it and apparently it's Orlando Bloom and Peter Jackson's fault rather than the character, but he has a habit of saying the most painfully obvious things ALL THE FREAKING TIME!!
Also the lack of credit given to Sam was annoying, but everyone who watches/reads it agrees that he's the real hero, so that's ok.

*SPOILERS*
It was very intense though, I came out with an awful headache from being on the verge of tears for three straight hours. I only really cried once, when Frodo woke up and I was certain that Sam had died while they were waiting to be rescued. And then once I'd started, I couldn't stop. When the Hobbits bow down to Aragorn and he says 'You bow down to no man' and then everyone bows down to them...well, I thought it was insanely tacky, but because I was already in tears I just started bawling...oh dear! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
*END SPOILERS*

Can't wait for the extended edition, my mum tells me that she can see exactly what's been missed out and that once it's all in there it'll be much better. I just wish I could find somewhere round here showing all three movies back to back...

At the end when Elrond patted Bilbo on the back, I expected him to stick his hand through him and copy himself. Mini-Smith!

BTW, did anyone else find something slightly homoerotic about Sam/Frodo and Merry/Pippin's relationship? More the latter, seeing as how Sam at least had a wife...

The homoerotic thing really doesn't apply. The relationships between the characters are intended to be something more than superficial romance.

The "homoerotic" relationship between the hobbits is what VERY good friends have. They're not gay, they just actually care about each other.

My friend and I aren't gay..but we are such good friends some people think we are... It's weird though, we always think the same thing..like atleast 10 times a day..we will be sitting in class and the teacher will say something, and we will both look at each other and say some random quote from a movie...like one time the teacher asked why a character in a story left home, and we both said at the same time "he ran out of toaster strudle" that was just like weird...or when we both said Pork pot pie, for some reason.... It's odd...not homoerotic... /me makes out with friend...It was more like a secret handshake [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] . It's always good to have friends that know you are just jokeing around all the time...I hate people that get super offended at jokes.

Never really "filled up", but I kept getting that feeling, like something really sad just happened in your life, and you WANTED to tear up. Old thread bumpage... Sorry, but it just came out here [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

My thoughts on RotK:

ep·ic P Pronunciation Key (pk)
n.
1. An extended narrative poem in elevated or dignified language, celebrating the feats of a legendary or traditional hero.
2. A literary or dramatic composition that resembles an extended narrative poem celebrating heroic feats.
3. A series of events considered appropriate to an epic: the epic of the Old West.
4. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Best movie ever? No. That title is reserved for Return of the King: Extended Edition. The only thing wrong with it was what wasnt in it.

3 of the most captivating hours of my life.

Saw it a few days ago, sexellent. Only a few relatively minor complaints (faramir underwritten after promising extra scenes in TTT:EE, some bad CG long shot moments) but they were indeed minor so who cares eh? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Look here Lucas, this is how you make movies...you need to rediscover this.

Also, on a final disturbing note, is it a bad sign that Legolas taking down that elephant thing was just so damn cool I was aroused? Yeah, thought so....but I somehow doubt I'm alone on that count. DON'T DENY IT!

There were quite a few little things like that which annoyed me too, like Sam and Frodo inexplicably ditching their Orc gear between shots and Gandalf being staff-less suddenly for the rest of the movie during the seige of Gondor, but presumably they will all be explained in the Extended Version [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Speaking of Gandalf losing his staff, I guess he loses it during his fight with one of the Nazgul on the ramparts of Minas Tirith, which was shown in the trailer but was strangely cut from the final film. Merry swearing allegiance to Theoden was also in the trailer but not the final cut. Ah well, bring on the EE!
