And then, he will more than likely proceed to kick the living **** out of you.

lolsinternettoughness.

Also: Wookie, you really seriously need to read up on the issue. First, the government didn't block anyone out from the zones. And second, whatever blockade went on, lasted for about a few days only and was a safety issue because people were getting covered in the oil, and being exposed to contaminants and cancer causing agents from the spill. The blockade on media and public getting access was retracted many days if not weeks ago. Do you only get the "facts" that Fox news feeds you?

Just what I thought. You think it's witty.

Getting oil on people would explain why they would cancel scheduled flights with congressmen as soon as they find out reporters are on them. But you raise an interesting point. You say they were only blocked when safety concerns were present, the same reason the previous administration blocked certain activities from certain areas. So I guess were all good and in agreement now.

It's a multinational company, and they haven't been called British Petroleum since some company merger 1998. If there's still stuff labelled British Petroleum there then they really need to update their signs. :P

I know that and you missed the point. Regardless of whether you call BP BP or British Petroleum it's a British company. Datsun / Nissan = Japanese. The original point is that the name change doesn't affect the country of origin. BTW, my first car was a Datsun B210.

Originally posted by dictionary:
1. a mode or system of rule or government: a dictatorial regime.
2. a ruling or prevailing system.
3.a government in power.
4. the period during which a particular government or ruling system is in power.

Are you suggesting your government is heading in the direction of being a rule of government? Or are you referring to it becoming a ruling system, like a government. Perhaps you mean the government is heading towards becoming a government in power?
I doubt you are saying it's becoming a time period in which a government is in power... Since that one doesn't make any sense, where as the other definitions are merely redundant.

That was partially why your example was flawed and that was what I was referring to. So, bottom line, I owned a Datsun.

Yeah, see this might have been a successful foray into trolling by JM. He criticized the way I initially used it which meets his definitions. Then I used the word colloquially which doesn't meet the definitions. Darth Dan may have noticed the "dictatorial regime" or something in the definition but it seems clear that he's thinking of the colloquial meaning. Now JM feels really smart and witty. Was on an okay outing for him, we might see some of this from him again.

Yes, the site exists purely to show JM's definitions.
The "dictatorial regime" was not part of the definition, but an example of how to use the word.
If you were to say it's becoming a dictatorial regime then yes, you'd be saying something. But to say it's becoming a regime just shows a poor understanding of the English language.

Grammar is syntactic, their argument is semantic in nature.

Haha, thanks! I hate it when that happens. I notice a lot of people do that with homonyms. I bet there's an article on wikipedia about it. Probably some sort of mistake people make when phonetically sounding words in their head and then typing or something.

Hmm, wonder who's the inflammatory douche. If you dislike my derisively calling the current administration a regime, fine. Being an ass about it doesn't make you smart or witty. Especially when, by your criteria, there was nothing wrong with the use of "regime" to begin with.

For what it's worth, Wookie is right (eeeeeeeeeugggggghaaaaaaaahhhhhhgggggaaaaeeuuuggh) about the government limiting access to the media to oil spills. I've yet to hear a valid reason for it.
