It's always an ugly argument and if there is one thing I like about Massassi as opposed to other forms I've been on is that they don't allow thread hi-jacks. Sorry if you think that I am being self-righteous. I just appreciate you guys a lot as one of the oldest tighest communities around. I never post much since I wasn't to popular around here before but I've been a lurker and I'm hoping you don't think I'm being indignant.

And I can agree to that too. However, allow me to dissect what has happened here.

What you should have said:
"Here what I think on this [opinion]. However, I think we should save this for another time/thread."
No one would contest this and I would back you up.

What you came off as:
"Here's what I think on this [option]. I don't want to talk about that so **** off to another thread."
Which prompted Antony's response.

Diplomacy FTW.

Anyway guys, let us return to the thread topic at hand. This discussion is at and end.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I said "please" dalf.

I suppose perception is reality...

I also asked for criticism from you as well. I meant it towards the argument... not what I "came off as."

Yeah but you're also displaying your attitude toward authority (dalf... authority... ha) which invalidates everything you've said...

Then again, based on the fact that you support this whistleblower, I can't imagine how you'd have that much respect for authority or the chain of command.

I respect authority but trolling is trolling, doesn't matter who does it. It's over now. Back to the argument.

I don't full out support the whistleblower. He deserves to do some time. I know he will do a lot of time.

My problem now here lies in Adrian Lamo. He is now ratting out more people. He is leaking more and more information slowly and deliberately as he rides the 15 minutes of fame. On his blog he goes on to address being accused of "shame less self promotion" by a writer for Salon.com. After that goes onto a couple pages long detail about him and his relationship with Salon.com. He brags about how he hacked their "premium subscriber list" and how they were "angry" with him. Who cares? This is not nearly as important as you dimeing someone out when they trusted you.

Here is what I've begun to realize about Adrian. He is only doing this because he is jealous. He is obviously very talented at breaching secure networks but he never came close to ****ing with the governments network. The only one that matters in the hacker world. Manning, through his ability to access SIPRnet, makes it look easy. He just joined the Army and because of his clean background he got a Top Secret security clearance. Stealing from SIPR was the easy part, it was getting it out that was going to be difficult. This is where Julian Assange comes in. He is the undisputed king of hackers. He started wikileaks in 2006 by himself. He lives off the radar and has an extensive backgroun with the community. How envious do you think Adrian was of this? Adrian spent his whole life, and did hard time, for messing with secure networks. At most he hacked the NY Times and placed his name as one of the contributing Op-Eds in the Op-Eds section. Now, here was this 22 year old kid with no real "hacking" skills in the eyes of Lamo. Lamo told him that he will treat him as an anonymous source if he can write an article about Manning. Manning refuses because he knows that even one public article about his actions could turn the leak investigation in his direction. In refusal Lamo realizes he doesn't have a story... but this still doesn't stop Lamo from asking questions with Manning thinking it will never get out. He couldn't have been less wrong.

So what then? O yes, snitch. Snitch a lot.

He has all the logs from Manning. Manning definitely trusted Lamo. I know for a fact that Manning wouldn't have divulged that much information if he had even an inkling that it would get out. This is because Lamo is a flat-out liar. I just want to target him now. I know Manning is done. Now it's time to bring down Lamo so people know the truth.

Dude, if I were you... I would distance myself as far as possible from this...

The background check they run on your before you enter officer school is pretty hardcore. I have some friends who have been rejected for menial stuff. I think you should consider your future as an officer in the United States Army before you ***** a whole lot more.

I am not going to do anything publically or physically for that matter. If I can generate discontent among people who can easily see that snitching after telling somebody you wouldn't is wrong.

I know I can't do much being that my intent is to become an officer. For now though I am just a college kid with a little spare time. If I want to dabble in voicing out a little bit then so be it. I don't see it's greater harm as long as I do it as a Cadet who isn't necessarily a recognized "voice" from the military. If I was an officer doing this then yes I could see how it could be reprehensible.
2010-07-31, 11:47 PM #50
You can count on them doing a pretty serious background check. They asked me questions about things that happened 4-5 years ago. I couldn't remember the answers. I still think that if you're wanting to be an officer you probably shouldn't have this stuff on your jacket. They'll get that you've been on this forum. I've been through the screening.

I have already been cleared and have my [S]. The form you are referring you that actually dates 7 years back (or in some cases only until you turned 18, which may be less then 7 years) is an SF86. Man that thing is a ***** to fill out.

I don't remember it asking: "Did you ever voice your concerns in a conspiracy like fashion on a board about a star wars video game released in 1997?"

It'd be funny if it did :)

edit:

To be honest with you. This is complete honesty. Don't you think it is messed up that our government COULD in your eyes punish someone for speaking out? This is freedom of speech. I signed up to defend it, not have it taken away from me. I'm not saying that it will happen. Once again, perception IS reality. I should be scared I guess but I know better.
2010-08-01, 12:07 AM #52
I know, I laughed in the face of the forms too... then they showed me printouts of posts that I made on the TPMTC forums... That was when I was 15 or so... Then I started to take them serious about what they could look up about me.

If they've ignored **** about you it's because they need to in order for your career you continue.

It was something about a free pie coupon. I have no idea of the context. I remember something about a free pie coupon joke from that era... but I cant speak intelligently about it...

They can seriously dig up your ****ing past, man.

:neckbeard:

Well even still. I'm not concerned. If they want to take away my security clearance for being sympathetic to a leaker then that's fine. However the fact of the matter is I was around SIPRnet for pro-longed periods of time and never violated it's confidentiality. That is the kind of Soldier I am.

This really sucks though. I feel very 1984 right now. Thanks for the paranoia! lol

Well some might be ahead of me in my "conspiracy" to prove Lamo as nothing more then an attention (rhymes with oar).

Turns out the only reason he got caught in 2004 for breaking into the New York times was because he opened his mouth and bragged about it which prompted an investigation.

Your concept looks terrific and I wish you the best of luck with it. I am honored to be quoted but that quotation is actually from Abbie Hoffman. I may have been foolish and arrogant, but I was not that young in the period Abbie was talking about.

I hang out with Adrian on irc. He's also got a formspring. He's an alright guy, and I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Clarification: Guy did thing that he knew was wrong, got caught. Sure, it wasn't any non-military person's "duty" to sell the guy out, but he also could've chose another person to go to.

Some congressman is saying Manning should get the death penalty. That's obviously wrong, but whatever.

Everything I've seen so far on Adrian seems to be "fame seeking" and outlandish. Sad thing is... no one can contradict his claims so his PR is pretty much canon to the MSM.
