I forum of predominantly Americans and Britons using their own systems of measurement? Well I never!

Also, BMI is also totally useless. Skin folds are more accurate, IMO.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Yep BMI is pretty worthless...6' 137lb is "normal" and 6' 185lb is "overweight"? Ehhh no. :P

So people should use Metric [which most people here wouldn't understand] so you, Kroko, FGR, Cavey and Koobie can understand everything? :P
nope.

Skinny? That seems rather unhealthy. Or perhaps you are missing your legs due to a landmine or industrial shredder accident?

You're smaller than most girls!

Er, no, BMI isn't inaccurate, the common measures of BMI are inaccurate. Height vs weight is inaccurate because it doesn't take into account muscle. The pinch test is okay but still not very accurate.

According to the CDC:
Quote:
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

I didn't say it was inaccurate; I said it was worthless.
woot!
2010-08-02, 9:51 AM #53
It's both. For 6'3, I should weigh 180. Anything over 190 is considered overweight.

That's bull****.

Oh, oops. I thought BMI took more into account than that. I guess you want actual body fat percentage, which for some reason I thought was BMI.

If I actually weighed something in the 'ideal' range, I doubt I would have enough muscle to lift myself out of bed.

But then I've been down and back up like 70lbs three times in the last three years so something is probably wrong with me.

This poll should really be redone with smaller increments. A 30 lb range for the most popular category is far too much.

Given the context of the thread I read this as "belly curve". :XD:

I currently weigh 190 pounds (86.18 kilograms). In December of last year I was up to 205 pounds (92.98 kilograms). 2 years ago I was walking around at 145 pounds (65.77 kilograms). To make a long story short, I went from 145-165 purposely when I was working out heavily. I then ran in to some medical issues (a torn quad muscle that happened years ago began to bother me again, a Morton's Neuroma surfaced & I had to undergo 8-10 alcohol injections to kill off nerve & then I developed a hernia which just had cut out yesterday). I'm hoping to get back down to my normal weight & to once again become active after my incision heals in a few weeks/months.
? :)

Well, regardless of what the BMI index says is overweight or underweight, at least it provides us with a single number that can be compared more easily.

No no, I thought if we used BMI, it would be easier for everybody to compare.

Just so you know, in Dutch, length and height are completely interchangeable when you're talking about a person's measures. Now that I think about it, we mostly use length for persons and height for objects. Apparently this isn't the case in English.

Yeah what with Google's nifty converter tool, posting my measurements in Imperial when the rare thread asks for them is not really a problem.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
