If you don't, you're not missing much.

Oh, ok. I shall stay focused on higher priorities, then. :P

That's good to know, sticky. I liked one, but two didn't really appeal to me. I was thinking about picking it up, but now I think I'll skip it.

Are there any particular plot points that aren't covered in the wikipedia article that might have some significance to future games?

[Also, having not played the game and getting all my info on the plot from wikipedia, the story sounds really dumb.]

Didn't like the first, didn't bother with the second, don't care. It's one of those games IMO that looks much better than it is.

Judging by the article, it doesn't really seem that the games are connected, Steven. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Thanks for posting, fishstickz!

I enjoyed both a great deal. But looking at this one, it seems that Bioshock 2 was a much better sequel than this will be.

This game is called Bioshock, but it's for marketing reasons. It's to Bioshock what Bioshock was to System Shock; it does not belong under the same name.

Still. I'm sure it'll be awesome.

After Bioshock came out I kept hearing rumors about the next game being a prequel. Maybe this is similar to what they had in mind.

I've only played the first one, it had it's moments but it felt clunky which always kills it for me. Maybe if they resolve that I'll give it a shot.
My blawgh.

The logical next step is the moon.

Yes, full circle back to System Shock and proper game design.

Holy ballsacks that looks cool. Falling deaths are the best :XD:

I'm sure I will love it but... I'm sorta disappointed with the timeline choice. Why would they go backward to 1912? They could have easily kept it in the same timeframe as the BioShock series.

I never really liked the general Steampunk genre, so I'm not sure if I will appreciate the change of settings. I agree if Bioshock 3 decided to stick to underwater, it would be too much similar to the previous games.

That said, I don't really know why I dislike Steampunk settings. It's just doesn't vibe well with me (too much suspension of belief? dunno).

A lot of steampunk is pretty radical. Thief is a good example of steampunk that is more toned down.

Steampunk to me is basically Sci-Fi but going backwards in time instead of forward. I'm okay with that if, like any good Sci-Fi settings, it's believable.
2010-08-12, 8:18 PM #23
I think steampunk is pretty goofy, but I do enjoy it.

Just the premise seems goofy: having modern or even futuristic technology in many cases, but not in every case.

Fallout 3 seems to stick out in my mind. You have the computers in Fallout 3 using monochromatic screens on old terminal computers. Yet they have advanced AI capable of friend or foe, or even in some cases intelligent conversation.
2010-08-12, 8:23 PM #24
That's the point of Fallout pretty much, 1950's Sci Fi.

Yes, it is real.

Well, I'm definitely intrigued. I thought the settings would be off-putting, but I think I can appreciate it if I watch more. It did bother me is that the gameplay shown felt "overly scripted"; I just hope you can just explore the place (and ride the rails) to your heart's content later in the game.

That's what System Shock 2 was like, Echoman, hopefully this will be similar.

I'm pretty impressed. I like that they are ditching the silent protagonist thing for this one.

Lacks something bioshock had. I think the cartoonish proportions of the chick and the robot man are symptomatic of this lack.
2010-09-21, 7:19 PM #36
I was happy with the character design. I thought the characters in Bioshock 1 looked hideously poor. Sure it's a bit cartoonish (reminds me of the Incredibles actually, haha), but it's better than just... wrong looking.

Anyone seen this video? Pretty funny haha.

Ok, I'll monitor the level of consolization for you, but I'm gonna need your phone number.

I don't know, that chick's face was pretty wrong looking.
