I'm actually going to agree with AOE. I always think these looks pretty cool, and then I play them are they're really just not for me.
nope.

Boco you should play System Shock 2. God, it was so much better than BioShock. What the hell, Ken Levine.

^ System Shock 2 was one of the best FPS hybrids ever released. I LOVE that game. It creeped the **** out of me.

Bioshock was... extremely underwhelming. It had a good narrative, but the gameplay just didn't engage me I found. The story was good, but the game was mediocre at best, and it was easier than hell, even on the hardest difficulty.

Bioshock 2 was just... Bioshock 1 again. I played probably the first few chapters and couldn't be bothered to finish. Thank God I didn't purchase that game.

Infinite was so far, until yesterdays debut of gameplay, nothing more than a fancy looking CG trailer which won't look or play anything like the game.

BioShock was basically an attempt at System Shock 3 without the license. It had the exact same formula, except it ruined it. It's supposed to be scary, but it's not, because there's no suspense. It's too easy and fights are too generic and happen way too often. Despite being non-linear it still manages to be quite linear and holds your hand all the way through the game.

Contrast to Shock 2 which, other than the occasional communique over the radio or PDA logs, had you roaming an entire 6 (7 if you count the Rickenbacker) deck ship all by yourself. Talk about MASSIVE... I've never played a game that made me feel so alone. You keep thinking you're going to run into someone and save the day but... no, it never happens. You're just massively ****ed over and over.

It was supposed to be scary? I didn't get the impression they were going for that at all.

It's more like, creepy/suspenseful they were going for. Not outright scary. And Exactly what Emon said.

Bioshock is one of the only games that's ever scared me, but I think that was almost because of the uncanny valley. The animations were always spot on, but the voices did kind of ruin it sometimes. I thought the whole ballroom fight was really creepy.

I must be in the minority for having enjoyed bioshock and bioshock 2 a great deal. And that's despite also enjoying system shcok 2 a great deal.

I'm part of that minority, JM.

Same here! Well, I still haven't played Bioshock 2.

Even though I should probably finish that second playthrough of SS2 I started in 2001. Boh!

Despite my negative tone, I did enjoy BioShock quite a bit. I was just disappointed because it could have been much better.

You've missed out on something very awesome late in Bioshock 2. I was happy with it being just more of the same myself, but it got even better.
